Surfboards Hawaii Model A stepdeck - vintage rider

Re: Surfboards Hawaii “Model A” vintage 1966 w/ stepdeck

Opininions on this as a vintage rider – whaya say?

I’ve got a line on a reasonable priced 8 foot one in decent shape. It was probably shaped for a grom and I’m a hefty 185lbs, but I figger that this scaled down longboard could be cool for me in a mid-leangth single fin sort of way (Ok, Ok, I can’t afford the 1968 Bing Good Karma and this was second best).

[] Board #2678 [] Shapped in 1966 [] Triple stringers offset [] 50/50 rail [] Green rails, yellow pin stripe, green tinted bottom [] boxed fin (fin original) [*] Step Deck board top and bottom

Let the comments fly. Maybe somebody here (JimtheGenius?) was the shaper?

I’ll try to post some pics.

I’m surprised at the 8’ length for 1966. The board was probably shaped by Duane Brown, who left Hansen in 1966 to shape for S B Hawaii. (specifically the Model A) Duane was known for his craftsmanship. Duane died several years ago. Too soon.

The possible shapers for this board are, John Price, Ed Wright, Al Merrick, Dennis Dobransky
