surfer shaped boards

I was thinking i know this came up a little while ago where we all propose logos to protect/show domestic built surfboards. some one suggested the “don’t tread on me” flag by Ben Franklin, however, i feel that is to specific to america. I have created a new logo which I hope to get up soon on here.(it is stll being drafted.) It is a skill 100 planer with “Shaped by Surfers” written under it. This way my Austrialian and New Zealand mates, my French, Portugese, Spainish, japanese, Indonesian(possibly), Panamanian, Canadian and Brazilian , Irish, Dutch, and British friends can all use it. I am still drafting the logo but any one with a skill 100 planer can you post a side shot of it on here for me? This small logo would get glasses right on the deck rightabove the tail kinda like the glass shops do their logos sometimes.

Hey dude,

There was a logo contest last year which included a bunch of entries with a planer in the logo. I think that Keith or one of the other moderators may have had lams made out of the winning logo. The thread is somewhere in the archives. I’ll go search it after this.

Okay, here is one link:

I guess searching for “Swaylocks Inspired” will turn up the thread as the above was just the entries. Some pretty nice stuff.

Howzit pacificvibes, I think this is what you are looking for.Aloha,Kokua

ok I don’t think the image of the planer i saw had alot of those details so…

Hi Rider, nothing against your new logo, but I think too much emphasis is placed on the almighty planer. All the planer does is speed up removing foam, with most of its work left lying on the shaping room floor.

There are so many more aspects to designing and shaping a board.

The eternal triangle of surf, think, make.

I think seeing a nice shaped board, recognizing it’s a nice shape then wondering to yourself who shaped it and look for the signature of the shaper would be the rule to live by. So many “famous” shapers have their logo’s plastered all over the board which was shaped by maybe them, a machine or ghost shaper or just their design. It still might be a perfectly fine board made under any of those circumstances. But the marketing hype depends on the consumer seeing a “lost” logo or Dick Brewer’s name on a board and automatically thinking thsi thing must be good.

I think a shaped by a surfer logo would mean nothing because being a surfer or ones surfing ability has nothing to do with making a good board. I do however think it is a nice idea just to symbolize your pride in the craftmanship of your product and to let everyone know you aren’t some wanker pressing a button and adding an Al Merrick’s logo to a surfboard you helped make for $2.75 or less and hour in Asia.
