Hey, so I went to my local shop today and I saw a 7’ 6" bing swee’ pea and it basically looked like a funboard with a quad set up. How would it surf? Would it surf like a funboard? I’m 6’ 3" and 145lb, hw would it wrk for me in small to medium surf?
It does look like a fun board. if you got the cash pull the trigger. Kep in mind that I love wide boards with more curve in the outline. Or find a local hot shaper that has some understanding of boards like that and have him build you one.
I would be willing to bet that someone your size could get just as many waves on a 6-10 length as the 7-6 length.
You only need so much float to get your waves. After that the extra volume starts working against you.
I ride a Dharma, which is like a Swee Pea with a cut off tail, but also quad and I ride it in a 5’6 where I’m 5’7 and almost 175 pounds. I think that 7’6 Swee Pea might be way massive for your size. Although offered in that size I thought it was meant as a full figured groveller more than a funboard. But what do I know.
The Swee Pea certainly is a fun board in every sense of the word. Have had my 6’10" for over a year and its my favorite all round board. It could even be a one board quiver as I have ridden it in everything from waist high summer surf to overhead Canary Island points. I’m about 5’9" and 170 lbs, been surfing a long time so am very old, but the board even works for me.
