There are many places to surf alone still today.
It’s only human nature to congregate together and create our own crowd.
If we want it it’s there, “just do it alone.”
My Nephew somewhere warm and alone.
Kind regards,
surfidng

he rips !
Nowhere near that good, but i managed to paddle out by myself the other day. Feels good when you';re out there on your own. Except when you get a smokin wave and no one is there to believe you!!!
Nice pic!
But… If he was alone, who took the picture!!!
Actually reminds me of another time i got there a little too early. Paddled out with the stars, was great, but the first wave i couldn't really see where i was going haha. At my local in winter, there's a swimming pool, and they put spotlights on very early. I remember going right, and the only light was the pool light. Awesome, until you had to look into the light to see the wave, haha funny wipeout due to blindness!!
I remember the late afternoons before dark on the North Shore during the 70’s.
There were times when you had victory at sea and then all of the sudden it would glass off.
Being all alone surfing firing waves was the best cleanest feeling ever.
Nowadays you have to travel far and sometimes can be 100’s of miles from roads.
This is in the South Pacific where there are no surf camps.
Too far from Gasoline.
You have to eat what you catch.
No Time Clocks.
No TV.
No Radio.
No Internet.
A land before Time!
Then…who took the picture?
For me, Surfing is an escape from daily life anymore....nothing else but fun. I surf alone frequently. I'll settle for lesser waves, or more difficult to find or to get to but it is doable.
For 5 years I had a swing shift / night job (from 7pm to whenever I was done) in Santa Monica, and I lived in Oxnard. I ended up in the regular crew of Malibu night surfers (and other nearby points), and often ended up surfing solo from 1-2 in the morning, till I saw the first few guys suiting up for the dawn patrol.
Surfed alone for maybe 1 1/2 hours early yesterday at a “Secret Spot” . Fun waist high rights over shallow reef. There is a left when it is bigger that is really shallow. Best with no wind or north.
Yea, I’m outing this place…kinda lonely out there(15 minute paddle). Just as the sun came up…there was an incredible 180 degree rainbow than relflected in the water all the way to my board…
Out of season south swell today with overhead waves at Ala Moana Bowls…
Blessed, rogelio
Ok Proneman, where do you work and are they hiring?
Weren’t you just in Baja last week? A while back, you posted pics of Malibu right? Now this?!?!
How do I get in on that?
I think surfing alone can happen if you are really willing to be on your “local” spot all the time. Last night I surfed the Peir by my house to myself with fun little 3ft waves and offshore winds. Really one of the best days you can get at the spot, where the wave is really hollow and playful. Luck plays a lot of the role in places like Southern California. You decide to paddle out and the wind turns offshore, or the waves clean up.
Surfding, Wherever you were sounds amazing. Those places where you are truly off the beaten path cannot be any more awesome.
I’ve gone pro…ne man!
Tiny Malibu…nice photo by Steve Hadley
Now they gotta pay me!
I haven’t had any company for the last number a few early night surfs…and had a great time. Though the fully solo thing can be a bit spooky at night…sometimes I wish there was another surfer for company! Just one though.
It is rare to have photos in these conditions.
I’ll ask.
You don’t want to cut yourself or break a bone.
Knowing how to perform CPR is good however how can you perform it on yourself?
The Kids call it going Feral.
Howzit Roger,Nice pic of "Puff" and I probably surfed your Secret Spot Since there some secret spots left but where do you draw the line at "Secret Spot" There are probably a couple hundred surfers On Kauai that know every wave on the Island and it's timing that helps plus a couple more variables also. You and Keith have done a lot of time at my soul home and you deserve to get some of those waves, god knows I got more than my share there. Aloha,Kokua
duckfooted............i've kneed bu on my 6-8 in tiny, hi-tide stuff(circ.1972-74ish)...............had a blast !

I surf alone quite a bit. I prefer one or two other guys around, though. Kind of sharky, etc. Step out of the SoCal arena for awhile and it’s pretty easy to surf alone if your willing to study the coast under different conditions and are not afraid of sharky, dangerous places. Mike
