These are my kind of boards. !!!!

Axel Lorentz shaping a fish in demo today:

Today was the show’s ending day. We celebrated it in style with a “How many shapers does it take to shape ONE board?” session. Jeremy Ferrara, Sergio Gomez and myself entered the shaping booth together and united our efforts to slaughter an innocent blank. The rule of the game was: draw straws to determine nose, tail and WP measurements, then try hard to get a curve going through those points. After which everyone of us would do some part of the job, one after the other: cutting, skinning, foiling, doing rails, etc…:

The three of us on the ring:

Cutting the outline:

“What do you mean “It’s your turn”? It’s not: I just cut the outline! It’s YOUR turn!..”

“Hey! Watch my fingers!”

Sergio, taking a look at what’s been done, can’t help bursting out laughing…

Jeremy cannot believe his eyes…

How many beers per shaper does it take to turn an otherwise good blank into disaster?

Answer: a lot.

Sergio, trying hard to fix all the mistakes…

At last, master shaper Philippe Barland decides to join the crew and teach us how it should be done:

As always in France, we say goodbye around a big bottle of red wine. Anybody got a corkdriver? “Me! Me!” Jean-Pierre Stark shouts…

That’s all, folks… At least for this year. We had a hell of a good time!

BRAVO !

wouter

The show lasted from October 23 to October 31 and was opened every afternoon from 2 PM to 10 PM. I will have to ask the organizers about the number of visitors.

Again, the whole photo album is here (many new ones added):

See you next year? BTW, if any of you out there would like to be part of the 5th edition, I’m pretty sure that you would be more than welcome. This may be a bit far for american or australian shapers, but what about the british, irish, welsh, scottish, netherlanders, germans, italians…?

bump

Boy, you weren’t kidding Mr Mellor about the gloss jobs by Daniel!! The triple stringer “San O” model sure stirred up my wood.

That is some real fine work .
