I should have done a search , A friend is buying a surfteck thruster(byrne). what are the differences like ding repair . I know it is epoxy but does it delam around an impact point or is it contained. do you glass up dings or just resin. I have fixed alot of paddle boards that are eps and epoxy and the delamination around dings are incredible.
In comparison what is prefered by people who ride both surftech and pupe.
Personaly I have tried to talk him out of it but the challenge of something new is the attraction. For the same price he can get a custom from some of the greatest shapers in the world or 2 from me.
Generally the repair on a tech is the same as a eps/epoxy board. 5 min epoxy worked well on the techs I fixed.
Punctures and small dings can be repaired with cabosil and epoxy, dingle berries, or a two part epoxy putty like PC7. I’ve found that impact type dings will run and get worse if you don’t use glass. Make sure there’s no moisture in the foam before you do repairs.
Surftech sells touch up paint to match the original finish, or you can use Posca pens.
It’s a little more work to fix Surftechs but they’re harder to damage in the first place. If you find one you like (subjective) you can always replace it with a new one just like it.
