Surgery...knee scope..acl recon

Tomorrow’s the day…

Not getting any better…

since I’m an orthopedic surg tech/first asst.

I’m lucky…I know the facility, docs…nurses, techs, reps, etc

so I have access to a lot for rehab…

this gonna be interesting …at 56.

Good luck, Dansan.  Synthetic, cadaver, patellar tendon, which method?  Just curious?  Mike

Do a prayer! Good luck.

Hi Dansan, you can do this. Follow your rehab and once it’s done keep going. Leg strength and knee flexibility. I have had ACL recon (patella) tendon on both knees. Still surfing and working out. I’m 57. Both procedures done in my 40’s.

as strange as this may sound for a German guy but I lost both my ACL and PCL playing American football, so I feel for you! surgeons and their technique is so far advanced by now that this will be a breeze for you! if you have the time to dedicate to proper rehab you will be back in the water within 6-8 month! good luck and all the best…

allograft…ant tibial tendon…arthrex ack tightrope system.

after over 20 yrs in the biz as a surg tech…i use…and it’s the one i trust.

I tore mine at eighteen and I’m 22 now… got it fixed by surgery, grafted from my hamstring or whatever. I’m fine. I can’t really comment on how it’s gonna be at your age, but the surgery is well practiced by now so you should be all good with proper rehab. Definitely do your rehab though. There were plenty of older dudes at the rehab place I was at and they seemed to be doing well.

Thanks…I’ve got my bases covered

spin bike at home, etc

i have also been prepping for this

for 3 months…so I feel ready…

not in the kill bill 2 way…but

ready to get it over.

I had ACL recon in my mid-20s (I’m 37 now).  Knee was ready to go after about 7 months with consistent rehab but mentally wasn’t there until about a year.  Surfing doesn’t really bother me unless I try something ambitious and torque my knee in a direction that only 14 year old groms can manage.  Running is no fun so stick with swimming and surfing.  You’ll be fine.  Enjoy the meds and milk the pity from your significant others and kids (assuming you have them).

Aloha and best wishes Dan

I had knee replacment of my right knee last Feb at 58

was back in the water at the end of Sept

still feels unnatural and numb but its stronger than the failing left.

gonna wait awhile before replacing the left

especially with this dumbass frozen right shoulder I have now from tweaking my rotator on kauai a couple a years ago.

The ortho says surgery is out since its a just  minor tear

but there’s nothing they can do about a frozen shoulder except PT

sucks getting old

i think the surf gods are punishing me after buying all this new state of the art surf stuff

you should do well, you don’t want joint replacement especially the knee or shoulder joint but then you should know that.

i’m 68 been surfing 53 years…MERSA infection in right knee. dam bugds ate my cartilage…total knee replacement—Magic words here are;  patellar sharing surgery…remember them for later.      the stronger a knee you take into the knife the stronger an outcome you will have.    I’m surfing, snowboarding and biking almost as good as before the infection.     by the way:   stay away from tropical rivermouths after rain, or any river mouths for that matter…you REALLLY don’t want the MERSA bug.

Went well.

They used a femoral block…so minimal

pain…cause it was a knee scope…with acl recon.

resting at home…ON-Q pain pump…and

donjoy ice

Donjoy iceman…circulating ice pad…

so I’m comfortable for now.

thanx for the well wishes and pms
