surifng san diego

Tahiti has dangerous reef breaks, but not CA. Actually, in my neck of the woods (North County, San Diego), the reefs are limestone. It’s actually soft (relatively) compared to rock (Trestles) or Rincon (also rock). You could actually dive down a few feet with a diving knife and chip away at it. Put it this way: When you go to the beaches here and see the cliff. Touch it. That’s pretty much what the reef is, only there are things growing on it, like anenomes, kelp, barnacles, muscles, sewage deposits, etc. The reefs here are not dangerous. La Jolla has a few spots with real rocks sticking out (like the creatively named surf spot Big Rock). That’s a dangerous reef, but only if you cant turn left. Sorry I called thought you were a guy. It wasn’t my fault. But I actually knew a Silvio that was a guy, but not Silvi-A. I am not very good with Spanish, Portugese, and Italian. Heck, I can barely spell those nationalities (and I’m a teacher for craps sakes). I have been surfing here for years and haven’t drowned yet. Maybe tomorrow. Seriously, the worst surfing injury I ever had was when I paddled out on a perfect head high day, rode a left backside all the way to the inside and kicked out feeling very groovy. Well some tourist lady (who was swimming in the surfing area) yelled at me that I came too close to her and her kids. She actually snatched my board from the water next to me, and thrust it at my face, splitting my lip in half (thirteen stitches). I was furious, but didn’t even notice I was hurt until I paddled back out and saw the bug eyes of all my friends staring at me. I said, “what?” They didn’t say anything. I looked down and saw a huge pool of blood swirling around me in the water. Went in, went home, got stitches, and missed surf PE tryouts. The moral of the story is: reefs aren’t dangerous around here. I told you, don’t worry about it. Have confidence. You aren’t going to get hurt. Just paddle out and take the challenge. There will be dozens of people around Nobody’s going to let you drown (except that guy who called you a man). How are you going to charge twenty foot Sunset if you are afraid of the reef? Oh, wait. I wouldn’t charge twenty foot Sunset. San Onofre, San Onofre, San Onofre. Say it three times before you go to bed. My friends from Georgia who surf Florida all the time came out here in August. I took them to San-O and they never left. They surfed there everyday for a week and then came back a month later and surfed it for another week. It’s that good. Trust me. Or, go to Blacks, hang out with the nude, gay volleyball players and get pounded by dredging barrels breaking into three feet of water on a sandy bottom. Have fun.

Thanks Fairmont, appreciate all the help! Dude, that is a crazy story about that lady! And don’t worry about the name thing…but I just wonder who was the weirdo that posted that message. [smile]
