I am having trouble cutting a swallow tail, so that the inside edges meet in the middle of the stringer, whats the trick, I am a new shaper
there is no “trick”, just take your time and be careful. A finer toothed saw might help…
However, if you have time to read up, search for the term “butt crack” into the archives and read everything that you find. (That seems to be the generally-accepted term for the inside of a swallow-tail…)

Just make your cross marks meet in the middle of the stringer. Cut out with a small hand saw. After that be sure to use a small collection of files and get that stringer more horizontal, up to 2-inches from the crack, kinda sloped. The stringer is the hardest part of the job but with the right tools, it’s not that bad.
And if the inside of the crack is a curve you may have to cut at two different angles to get to your mark that meets in the center of your stringer. Taping the otherside of the crack when cutting through the stringer(slowly and carefully) may prevent the blade from slipping and cutting the opposite side. Did that make sense? Hope so. mike
its a bitch, just take your time and do it right
