Swallow tail on longboards

just curious, why don’t ya see more swallow tailed longboards? Now that I am thinking about it, I don’t know if I ever have. I think I saw a Eaton Zinger that had one, but am not really sure if it did or not. Is it just a cosmetic thing or is there some valid design theory on it?

Gordan & Smith make one I’ve seen quite a few down at Tourmaline in San Diego.

And nobody cared, cause ya couldn’t feel the difference anyway, over a square tail. Happy New Year!

They all broke off! And nobody cared, cause ya couldn’t feel the > difference anyway, over a square tail. Happy New Year! Too fragile, makes handling too delect. There used to be alot more diamond tails around but the feel out of favor these same reasons. Dangerous on a large heavy board, not enough performance difference to merit using it. Better off with a rounded pin, squash or square tail. That’s what I think the story is. Once you go below 8’6" or so that’s when you can really feel the difference in a swallow tail. Best, Rich

I’d hook-up with Skip Frey on this one,…he’s been riding a swallow/fish tail on his board that’s over 10’,…his knowledge is by far greater in this realm than I could ever offer. the best, rOnDeL

I did one for my brother 20 years ago. A 9’10" split stringer single fin that ended up in two pieces after going into the Hueneme Pier! I’m working on one now for me. I’ll post when it’s finished. With the help I’ve been receiving here from Noodle, Herb, Tom, Scott and the rest, I have high hopes.

Although I have two of his boards, I’ve been trying to contact Skip Frye on this for about a year with no success. I guess with the demise of Harry’s along with his wife’s pollution thing, he’s been pretty busy.
