Swalocks get together on Oahu 3-18-07

I was driving by Puena Pt this morning and looked at that big park… Choke room… March 4th, 11th, 18th, or the 25th… All Sundays. Maybe around 11:00am and on… Plenty grass, and if the waves are doing it we can surf too…

Aloha Blaine

I will be there if circumstances allow.

I think they might be working on the restrooms at Puena Pt. But if the restrooms are working, that would be the best place. Plenty of parking, fresh water, food near by, grass, beach and even waves if there is a big enough swell.

CN,

Finally catching up on Sway's. Good idea to get together. If you're planning for Sundays in March, the 4th or 18th sounds good.

The 18th is my birthday and one year anniversary for shaping my first board.

I’m bringing some boards… Actually, a few of them never leave my van unless its to surf…

Howzit Carve, Wish I could attend. Used to surf Puena Pt. back in the early 70’s by myself or with maybe 2-3 other people. Love the inside section over the shallow reef. Back then it was just the old air strip and at night the Army helocopters would train for dropping off and picking up soldiers. They did it at night ( I would park my van there ) with about 5 helos rotating from P. pt to Kaena Pt.Godd memories of some great rides.Aloha,Kokua

The old airstrip is all over grown with big weeds… In the late 70’s, early 80’s a friend’s Dad was the caretaker out there and had a un-permitted house on the point. We used to surf it with hardly anyone around… Now, it can be a zoo when its good… We used to watch sharks cruise the reef… When Jet Skis would come by and the kids would be surfing, my friends Dad would run out with his .45 and blow off some rounds and chase the skis away!! Hahahaha!! He was gnarly… Spent a lot of time there having fun surfing, chasing their pigs, finding military stuff they would leave behind, watching the helicopters land up close, partying etc… Now they only shoot the show Lost there and hardly ever land helicopters… I have very fond memories of the place…

Bernie and I surfed out there a lot from '72-'74 (then he went to the mainland). We used to camp there or at Kammieland because it was cheaper than driving back and forth from Ewa. You could drive down the side of the park then turn into the airstrip area and drive up to the point. or down to Kawailoa.

I surfed there a lot up to about 1978. That’s a great wave when you can take off outside and make through to the last bowl where it gets pretty shallow.

I hear the tow in guys are hitting the outside break. I always wondered what it’d be like to catch those big ones on the outside and try to run it through to the end. That would be quite a long ride.

One of my distant cousins said their familiy used to live there. The name is Kahalewai, and half of my Hawaiian blood comes from that family.

I know some really good lobster grounds near there.

In the '70s the north shore was such a fun place to be. You could almost always find a spot with only a handful of guys out, and surf for hours and hours.

pau…aloha and mahalo!

We’ll be our own crowd factor…

Haha! Back in the day we would be… Unfortunately nowadays, it will seem like any other day no matter how many of us show up! I cherish the alone years we scored it… The outside was the first place I paddled out over what seemed like giant walls of water thinking I would die. Those of you who surf it know the feeling when the mackers start rolling in… Talk about walling up in front of you… Haha!

Hey Carve:

What do you want me to bring? I am really excited about this.

D

Aloha Carve,

I’ll try to make it over for the event. Lunch at Cholos and dinner at Duke’s always works for me!

Howzit guys… I was thinking simple kind pupus is good… Whatever is fine… I’m probably going to get some of my friends family huli huli chicken which is always ono… They sell rice too… My wife informed me her sister is getting married that day so I can only stay for a few hours till around 2:00pm Should be enough time to meet everyone and talk story, have some fun… Aloha…

Well guys, I arrive on the 16th and will be staying at Sunset, so I will stop but too.

Jim

A little bird told me that Resinhead is coming over from San Diego for this event too.

I don’t have any 2pm deadline so will plan to stick around longer.

Those who know me would suspect I might bring beer, too, ha ha.
