swaylocks footage....

how would we go about getting, say, each person here [who wants to, of course !] to submit one or two wave’s footage of them on their latest or favourite board they’ve made ?

I guess it would close the forum down posting it here, but is there another way, where say the footage could be copied to a dvd by someone experienced at that kind of stuff, and then we could pay postage and whatever to secure a copy ?

I just mention this having received that very thing [one wave, one board] from one of the crew here, and it got me stoked, and thinking …

Maybe if you already have a LOT of say the Californians from your annual 'Swaylocks Get-Together[s], you may already have a good portion of a mini dvd there ?

I’m thinking …100 people, 1 or 2 good waves each [on one or two different homemade boards]… and maybe a coupla seconds briefly showing the board, and telling of the dimensions.

 100 people x c. 5 seconds = 500 seconds...about the concentration span of the computer generation...could be a winner ?!

… anyone up for it ?

I’m sure in our midst we have graphic artists, computer whiz guys, video guys, photographers, musicians…

… what say you ?

…to be validated in motion.a dreamy scenario…

alas the lacking of true stellar footage to reveal the ultimate ride…

.is one wave enought to reveal the real…you/me…

the pursuit of this revealation diluting/perverting the higher minded -surf ing spirit

for a goof? sure … candid character shots, identity mugshots, photos taken by me mum,on a pony when I was six in front of the Rosencrans residence on Teddy avenue on the shady side of the street… but

the real essay would be an epic film documentary fifteen or twenty hours of film harvested world wide from galacia to the lost maldives filming the production and implementation of this aquaeous maaddness in tangible form…

saw a Ryobi battery powered planer at home d-p0t while you guys were at the super bowl and mind-saw the feral shapping potential outside the box…

…to get the front money to explore the cut loose get the essence film - not of this marketing economy material commercialiearth…carefull chippy me lad, that lid on that box, should it be opened? might it blind the infidel?

…count me in…ambrose…MAKE - UP !..some one took my chair wheres my chair.with my name stenciled on the back, that girl with my water ,wheres my wateer…MY WATER…GLORIA! …

...mmeanwhile back on the aboriginal planet "bring me little water silvie, bring me little water silvie ,every little once in a while'' huddie leadbetteer

One wave per board perhaps…if you have five you really can’t seperate. And if the surf was that good, more footage to use in the ‘final edit’ !!

… Anyone else ?

ben

[for those wanting anonymity , perhaps the computer-clever among us could do someting like this to the footage…

…“re-arrange your face” , so to speak !! [with apologies to a certain french shaper on a certain shaperoom.net website, and following on from "hackeysacky’s " warning regarding ‘evidence’ of …okay, I’ll leave it there for now ! ] …or you could surf with a mask on, like Bruce Lee used to at Kirra [does he STILL do that, I wonder…‘the enforcer’ gig ?!]

Hey chip, where have you found that pic, on the french forum or on the surfermag’s one ?

That pic has been taken yesterday morning in front of my brand new shaperoom.

It’s the first board ever to come out of that place.

The guy on the picture is a friend of mine who wanted me to help him with my short knowledge about shaping boards and he also wanted me to laminate his egg.

Stange to see a picture I took on Swaylock’s.

I keep reading and lurking swaylock’s but don’t feel confident enough to dare and post my tries.

See you.

I think this could be a wonderful idea. maybe even expand on it. Include a short shapping/glassing section along with each persons waves, and character shots. I know I for one would love to see the different techniques each person applies. I think it would be really cool to see the garage shaper back to back with someone putting out a few hundred boards a year.

I happen to own a digital film company and while the majority of my bills are paid by shooting corporate videos and TV commercials, I do spend a fair bit of time traveling up and down the west coast shooting surf. I’d love to put something like this together. Maybe charge a small amount for the DVD to cover peoples expenses and also to raise some money for swaylocks. If anyone is interested in helping with this PM me here; or let me know if would be interested in being featured and where you live.

How does it go, have you or your friend surfed it yet ?

CAN you video it being ridden ? […how’s the surf in France at the moment ? ]

okay, catchya mate !

ben

unreal !!

I’d like to support you in that however I can…pity I’m so far away.

I thought there would have to be at least ONE pro videographer here !

the s.o.s. I definately would like to see filmed, herb’s 5 finners too…anything a bit ‘out of the ordinary’…as well as bonzers [3 and 5 finners], fish, stubbies, hull bottoms, mats. Mals… the list could be vast !

cheers !

ben

Sounds cool only how do WE (aussies) get our footage to the director??? Mail, Intenet?

Josh.

PS… I’d be keen…

No doubt the list is endless. I think everyone has their favorites, maybe we should do this film about the odd and unusual shapes. I’d really hate to just see westcoast shapers. (alltough there is a ton of us) I think a colaboration from around the world would be truly unique. Hopefully we can get some film from all over. I can’t be the only one on here that can run a video camera. I know of a couple guys on the eastcoast that may help. How bout else where? If you guys can shoot some video I can put it together… well I can bribe my editor to put it together. I’ll give pointers and advice to anyone that wants to submit so that we get good quality footage.

what do people think ?

One good suggestion I received was to get it hosted free on the internet, and then ‘download’ it…

ben

It would be best to mail the footage as to get it via internet means compressing the video small so it can be sent. this loses quality. I’m thinking of people can shoot in miniDV format it is the most universal without loseing a lot of quality and costing major money to shoot. The big problem is getting the two tape versions into one. Europe and Australia use the PAL format where Northamerica uses NTSC. If you guys can get tapes to me I’ll worry about converting them.

Getting it hosted on the net would be great. Might be a bit of a burden for a full film as it is heavy on the bandwidth and then won’t be of the best quality. Perhaps we post some of the highlights or small pieces of it every week.

I think thats a pretty cool idea. I’m a film student in Florida and working on a couple wakeboard films right now. I’d definitly be interested in helping out.

Hey Chipperman,

I think you’ve been away from the fumes too long, devilishly brilliant idea.

Some things to think about in creating a dvd, streaming video etc.

  1. It would be good to specify frame rate and image size.

  2. Same again for audio

  3. People could post their DV tapes or CDs to a central location.

  4. Cost would need to be worked out ahead of the whole shebang so people know how much the DVD will cost.

  5. Still photos could be included, as in a slide show with background music.

  6. Compatabilty with NTSC and PAL shouldn’t be a problem, 2 versions could be created but most DVD players are multi format anyway.

  7. I have a great mate that could do the voice overs, he used to read the news on the ABC.

I’ve been doing this type of work for over 10 years now and have taught the subject for 4, I have the technology, we can do it.

Let me know if I can help

cheers

Hicksy

Good idea Hicksy, as long as he doesn’t sound like he’s reading the ABC news!

Nah, he’s a real person, same age as me 43…

Top bloke and loves to run amok…

Hicksy

I think this is really starting to shape up.

Hicksy,

I think as far as frame rates and audio sampling rates we should wait and see what kind of equipment is available in each location. It would be nice if everyone could shoot 24p as it would be the most universal but if those using PAL cameras could shoot regular 25 frames and NTSC shooters could shoot 24p it should blend together fairly nicely.

I think cost might have to be determined once we know who’s all involved but I think swaylock members should get a drastically reduced price. I think I can wrangle some distribution on the picture so we’d have to work all that into the distribution contract.

I think still photos and slide show are a great idea. I’d even take it a step further and include a bonus CDrom disk that could include a step by step shaping how to. Maybe a “design your own board” segment, bloopers, wipe outs etc.

You should collect as much footage as possible, then you will have a pool to edit from. This could be your first surf video. The Swaylocks documentary. Good idea!

I’m happy to collate the Oz material if anyone’s interested.

I’ve got full access to programs and hardware.

PM me if you want my address.

cheers

Apologies to the Moderators, but I’m bumping this up because I think it could be a goer for this community. Our collective knowledge and experience could help support this site for a very long time.

I just PMed Hydro with some ideas regarding the layout to fill 80 minutes of a DVD.

Come on people, how often do we get a chance like this, don’t you want to be in a surf movie or part of the making of.

cheers
