Whooooo!!!
hiya Josh !
…I thought you’d be loving it , mate ! Simon has more than a couple of boards , particularly single fin ones .
… you have been warned …
stay tuned , more to come ! [multi finned boards , too]
cheers !
ben
this was apparently a Joel Tudor “cast off” , that Simon got from Cafe Haleiwa …STOKED !!!
thats awsome man. great boards and designs.
Yah! Simon likes his single fins. I like the rounded pin single, no bumps or anything best so far. Clean lines! Mike
“Sunbird Surf Designs by Donny Alcroft 7’6 x 19 1/4” . A Bells gun- lightning bolt pinlines"
…is what Simon’s commentary said.
THIS one is a
"Dick van Straalen. Was once a beautiful board. Unfortunately now a basket case. Horrendous fractures stress cracks and a big delam in the tail . Fixable , but way to0 much work " […“Platty, paging Platty …WHERE are you ?!” hehe]
That first single fin is awsome. Have you got any more info on it? Its just screaming to be ridden.
YEP…
Simon rides ALL of these , from time to time …“horses for courses” , as he says .
And , since you asked , here’s what he wrote about that board…
“sky 6’6 x 19 3/4” channel bottom, shaped by Greg Melhuish "
[I may be wrong , but I think Greg was a Cronulla Point and Shark Island local in the 1970s and 1980s ? “Sky Surfboards” are , as far as I know , in Byron Bay .]
cheers !
ben
" 6’2 x 19 1/4" Summercloud stinger. Shaped by Ronnie Goddard [Coffs Harbour!] A beautiful board , my pride and joy "
take it easy and have fun !

Good collection Simon has there, I didn’t realise he was a collector of rare and unusual singles.
Tell him from me he should crack a smile every now and then. Then again, I guess maybe he takes it seriously.
Now I wish I had a pic of every board and fin I made and owned. Oh well, the hindsight thing.
hiya Greg !
Simon is actually a very happy man…it’s the whole “run back and wait for the self timer / concentrating thing” , when taking these sort of photos [I know …I do the same !!]
he said he has some of your fins on his boards , Greg …
…so , hopefully [at my urging] , we will get to see them too …islantis and island stuff [he no longer has any ‘sundance’ boards , unfortunately ]
okay…catchya mate !
ben
here’s a historical oddity one for you Dave ! [“Platty”] and Andy [“A.D.68”] , too !
…“5’6 x 20” Alan Oke. A famous Vic shaper. This s-deck is the ugliest board I’ve ever seen. Knife rails , super flat bottom, and a big W.A.V.E. SET fin . Will not go ! "
AND …this shot almost reminds me of some of the mini “goat boats” I see some German backpackers occassionally bringing to the beach here in summer …
…like Simon said , she ain’t pretty !
ben
…jet bottom !!
this one is a …
" 5’5" x 20 1/4" ‘Kewarra’ jet bottom . By Erle Pedersen. Shaped in '78 ? '79 ?
To surf L.A. standing up on… "
…and , here’s a closer look at the “jets” …
He’s still not happy, doesn’t he know he’s on Swaylocks…
love the jet bottom…
what sort of fin; the typical scythe-type kneeboard fin??
keep them coming!
yeah , THAT’S a good question Andy !
I’ll have to remember to ask him , next time I phone him …or maybe he will ‘post’ here one day , and answer the readers questions ? [ It would be interesting to SEE the fin , eh ? …my guess is , because he was standing up on it , and L.A. is a very dredging wave , he may have been using a more “conventional” fin , back in the box ?]
(yep , hicksy …I told him he’d be on here . I asked his permission before posting them , that’s for sure !)
ben
Here’s one for you Viccos …
That stuff is simply great! he must go throughout the world searching for boards in that condition!
ALL are beautiful boards.
