i waswondering if you do swirls the same with epoxy resins as you do with polyester resins??? any advise will be appreciated…
There have been several threads on this topic… do a search.
But the answer is yes… similar techniques with a few twists. Don’t expect the same results as poly, but you can get fairly close.
Yes you can but it’s a little more tricky to get good results. Here are a couple I have done over the past few years.

IMHO it’s just a matter of how much money you want to put on the floor…Just takes a lot of resin to swirl it and people who work with epoxy don’t like to waste resin…and I don’t blame them…epoxy is expensive! You can be more conservative and make some cool effects with squirt bottles and such…but a big rich swirled color takes a lot of resin…if you get skimpy with the resin it’ll get muddy.
thanks sanolocal… they look great…
Nice Ken! ....digging the plaid, might have to give that a try.
heres one of mine... RR Kwik Kick thinned with Xylene.......pigments shot right into the buckets. for this I used two buckets...light green tint base with blue black and white pigments squirted and stired... all these photos are right after the lam....the colors REALLY popped once i got it all shined up....none of those pics with me though...srry

thanks.
I haven't pulled off an epoxy swirl yet....these boards are epoxy resin...you could do the same with poly...maybe....
Hey Ray, those are super nice! I really dig that fishy on the left..is that plug for a nub?
Also, I have tried a couple swirls (ish) with epoxy...one thing I was thinking is that maybe the color doesn't look as rich...not because of the epoxy but because of the EPS...seems like the PU soaks up the color more??? Your thoughts?
I am about to start a wake surf Mini LB as a gift for a friend. He really wants a color scheme that will match his boat...Black and Red of course!!! On EPS! too! I was just about to tell him no way until I saw the pics you posted. Those colors look pretty rich to me!

Fish....Standard lamination with clear resin.....when the epoxy was starting to gel....poured on Black/Red/Yellow epoxy resin. Just let the colors flow on their own, no squeege. A few hours later hot coat. The color is raised because no squeege work....sanded and did a second hot coat to get everything flat.....
The color on the shortboard was done with squirt bottles Mexican Blanket style...Now that was fun! Wahoooo!
Epoxy resin is different....I'm using Resin Research KK and CE....
In my little world a "perfect" one color tint with a "perfect" cut lap is much more difficult than an abstract.......funny how that works....
Have fun, post photos..................Ray
...and....some colors are strong and some are weak......
yellow is weak but yellow will always be yellow
Black is Strong and black will take over and cause big problems...but black can and will turn gray...(weak)
Red is Strong if you mix it that way! Or weak and turns pink...Orange is good....Where did green come from?
Learning about colors is fun.
