Synergy alternative material test boards

Hey all,

Thought I would post these up individually with the materials used in case anyone had an interest.

These are all test boards scheduled to hit the water this week.

Each material had it’s quirks and the boards have minor errors because of it.

We are just testing for strength and performance.

I would appreciate feedback, and if you have boards made from alternative materials, PLEASE SHARE!

Mahalo

I tried to get the pics side by side…I don’t know what happend.

Sorry

They look beautiful man!

And i’m stoked on your use of the bamboo and hemp, i’ve been meaning to go down that path as well, just havn’t got around to it.

Love to hear how they go, nice work!

Thanks KK!

And thanks for reminding me!

Some big props go to the Compsand guys as well as a bunch of guys here.

I have gotten a TON of inspiration and information from all you guys!

I will actually be doing(or rather attempting to do) a bamboo veneer board for my next test batch.

Nice work Todd.

Keep it up brotha

AH YES! BRIAN G.

I have to give the biggest props to Brian.

The bamboo on the parabolic and the quad is Brian’s.

I will probably be using it on the upcoming veneer board as well.

And don’t forget leash plugs!

Mahalo

there’s a lot going on here!

Hopefully that’s a good thing! LOL

Totally experimental. The tail was a strange vision and the quad placement was inspired by the tail design.

Since I am out of the water for a bit, I am giving it to my most thrashing team rider to put it through it’s paces and tell me how it feels, and to put the materials to the test.

5’9"x20"x2 3/8". I guess you might call it something like a “bulging bat tail”

Your on your way!

The rear two fins remind me of the Thrailkill Twin… Id want to try that with 0° cant inserts in and foils to the inside!

Whats the distance between the bases of the two rear fins?

Nice work. Love the experimenting. I’m wondering if you think the bamboo and hemp cloth goes transparent enough to see the grain in a veneer substrate?

Bill’s twin definitely contributed to the inspiration on this one for sure.

1" either side of the stringer which puts them right about 2.25" apart at mid point.

I have a couple of setup’s that I want to try out with this. This setup with dual foils, 8 fronts and 6 rears (at Zuma), and 0(where the hell is that “degree” located?)

Because of the V in the tail, there will still be a 1-2 degree cant, even with a 0 insert.

I have some “theories”, but I won’t know anything until it hits the water.

Thanks!

With Brian’s bamboo…definitely. It adds a slight tan hue, but lays out pretty clear.

The hemp is a different story. Because of the nature of the weave and the cloth, it leaves little darker lines here and there. They look something like “brush hairs” that you have probably plucked off of a hot coat, but they are in the weave. It has a nice “organic” look to it, so if you are going for that kind of thing it’s cool. I would think it might create a kind of “interference” over a veneer, but I’m not sure.

Thanks SD

You helped more than you will ever know.

Awesome, Todd. Just killer looking work.

I’ll take door number one in a bonzer, and door number two as is, please.

Todd I was wondering how fast you can take the board out of the vacum Bag using resin-X slow in your normal weather conditions?

Looks good.

To do this on a PC (Windows XP, dont know if it will work in others) hold down the ALT key and type 0176

Good lookin boards Todd

I didn’t bag these, but I did bag my last couple. I seem to recal pulling them from the bag in about 2 1/2 hours.

Hey afoaf there is a rather unusual thing about the parabolic as well

If you look closely, you will notice that the stringers run from the tail all the way to the tip of the nose.

On this one, I actually pulled a 6’2" out of a 6’1" blank. I had Mike over at Shooting Blanks cut it. It took some strategic placement because we litterally used the entire length of the center section of the blank.

I know the “machine nay sayers” may dismiss it outright, but I had a specific vision for this one and I thought cutting it on the machine would serve the board best. I have never shaped a parabolic before and I wasn’t going to risk my design in the name of “hand shaping”.

I can always hand shape a parabolic another time.

The boards look great Todd! I’ll have to check out your operation some time when I’m over the hills.
