Totally experimental. The tail was a strange vision and the quad placement was inspired by the tail design.
Since I am out of the water for a bit, I am giving it to my most thrashing team rider to put it through it’s paces and tell me how it feels, and to put the materials to the test.
5’9"x20"x2 3/8". I guess you might call it something like a “bulging bat tail”
Nice work. Love the experimenting. I’m wondering if you think the bamboo and hemp cloth goes transparent enough to see the grain in a veneer substrate?
Bill’s twin definitely contributed to the inspiration on this one for sure.
1" either side of the stringer which puts them right about 2.25" apart at mid point.
I have a couple of setup’s that I want to try out with this. This setup with dual foils, 8 fronts and 6 rears (at Zuma), and 0(where the hell is that “degree” located?)
Because of the V in the tail, there will still be a 1-2 degree cant, even with a 0 insert.
I have some “theories”, but I won’t know anything until it hits the water.
With Brian’s bamboo…definitely. It adds a slight tan hue, but lays out pretty clear.
The hemp is a different story. Because of the nature of the weave and the cloth, it leaves little darker lines here and there. They look something like “brush hairs” that you have probably plucked off of a hot coat, but they are in the weave. It has a nice “organic” look to it, so if you are going for that kind of thing it’s cool. I would think it might create a kind of “interference” over a veneer, but I’m not sure.
Hey afoaf there is a rather unusual thing about the parabolic as well
If you look closely, you will notice that the stringers run from the tail all the way to the tip of the nose.
On this one, I actually pulled a 6’2" out of a 6’1" blank. I had Mike over at Shooting Blanks cut it. It took some strategic placement because we litterally used the entire length of the center section of the blank.
I know the “machine nay sayers” may dismiss it outright, but I had a specific vision for this one and I thought cutting it on the machine would serve the board best. I have never shaped a parabolic before and I wasn’t going to risk my design in the name of “hand shaping”.
