Hola; just finishing up board number four; I’m considering trying to get it up to a highish level of gloss. I’ve been using RR epoxy over EPS, this one is PU but I’ll still be using the RR. The RR has yielded satiny, semi-gloss results when I wetsand to 1000 with my sander/polisher and then buff up with some polishing compound. It’s pretty good, better than I expected from epoxy but not a full gloss. I am considering putting a gloss coat on this next board and my local plastics/paints dealers recommended System Three WR-LPU topcoat (http://www.systemthree.com/p_wr_lpu.asp) as being high gloss, polishable, and compatible with epoxy.
So my question is: does anyone have any experience with this stuff? Is there a better product I shoudl try to find? (this is the only one my primary local source said they had but you never know…) They recommend three coats; that seems like a bit of madness to me weight-wise; any thoughts?
I have been spraying 2 part automotive/marine acrylic urethane clear coat with great results and my setup is not great.A porte cable pan cake compressor,a touch up gun and a box fan at the doorway.I bought a gallon and a half for like 60$,and 8-10 ozs will spray a 6’ board.
It is not rated for below water applications. It is easy to spray and clean up is with water, but at about 4-6 months of use it will start to peel off.
Toxic 2 pac auto stuff is unbeatable for durability, shine, leveling, and some of the worst toxicity in a sprayable product.
Sounds good, thanks for the info. Does anyone know any other non-spray gloss coats that might be ok? Just in case. Otherwise it’s a hotcoat, sand, and a second coat of RR hopefully coming out super smooth and clean… then straight to the 600 +
