Is T. Campbell still on this board? I think he was in the NY/LI area. I’m trying to finds materials (resin/cloth/blanks) on Long Island. I know h2ofx is in Jersey and goes south for blanks, but with so many shops and shapers on LI there must be some local places to get what I need… Any help out there? Many Thanks, Eric J
whats up- i work at unsound- maybe i’ve seen you around. you could try bunger or foam-ez is really good, probably cheaper and easier
I’ve tried emailing Bunger, and a few other local shops/shapers. Only Pistol Pete was even willing to talk about it… but he had no blanks, or even damaged 2nd’s, to spare. You may have seen me around in the past. I was chasing almost every swell from about '81 through '95. The last few years my surfing has been mostly stymied by other responsibilities. Now that the kids are a bit older I hope get out there some more. But I’d like to find some materials locally. Mail ordering a small amount of blanks is so expensive… and there must be a s249a dealer on the south shore somewhere. Eric, The hardest part in building a board for me was getting the blanks. Now that your kids are older do what I do. Order some blanks from WRV have them shipped to VA. Beach. Do this in the fall, take the wife, w/o the kids, to Va. Beach, you can get a nice hotel room on the beach at off season rates. Enjoy the weekend and take your board you might get some hurricane surf. Good luck, Frank I’ve tried emailing Bunger, and a few other local shops/shapers. Hello. Yes, I am Tim Campbell, from Long Island (I happen to be at a very crowded spot just outside of LA right now, but I will be back to LI soon enough) Brad from Foam-EZ is the person for blanks, he is very nice, helpful and although you will be paying more than the West Coast guys (due to shipping) you will not feel ripped off. Plus you can get what you want, not what WRV is willing to sell you. Actually our best bet – those Long Islanders looking to get blanks at a reasonable price might consider combining forces. Perhaps Dave J. from UnSound would be the middle man – I will as well – no profits for the middle man – just a central place to pick up the blanks. Dave and Mike at UnSound are both very nice and having people in their shop wouldn’t hurt business any. Hank Byzak in Montauk, shaping for Pure Fun…might want to contact him as well. Their is also a guy in Long Beach shaping retro-style boards and trying to sell them at SunDown now – Skeech (sp) for Phoenix and the guy in Oakdale shaping Natural Art Surfboards (obviously in addition to Bunger who never gets back to e-mails or contact anyway). I am sure thier are others who are already shaping or wish to. Perhaps what we do is talk to Brad, he may know others around here he can contact and let them know, also drumming up some new business – we can round up a nice order for him while at the same time saving lots of dough. Def a win win. Let me know. Tim
Tim, Thanks, great idea - and count me in. I’m not connected at all with the shops around here so it’s great that you know some folks and might be willing to work as a middle-man. I’d like to get my hands on about 4 blanks - of different shapes and sizes. For a shortboard (6’10"), a mini-longboard(7’ - 7’6"), and two long boards (9’ and 10’) if possible. Not exactly good for shipping, or a volume a discount but, with your idea… and enough people we might be able to make it work. What can I do to help here - I’m not well connected but I’m definately willing to put in effort to see if this can work. Many thanks again. Eric J>>> Hello. ?? I’m still interested - even if it seems that the thread was mostly deleted. EJ>>> Tim, Thanks, great idea - and count me in. I might have a friend or two who would like a few blanks also. I’ll check and let you know if I come up with anything. Thanks again. EJ>>> i will see what i can come up with and get back to you
