Balsa board? Which balsa board? What are you talking about, Pierre? I really don’t understand…
Oh well… if theses are taking too much space in your shop, I can come help you get rid of them before your start on your chainsaw !!!
Aloha Balsa:
I love that tail block. I’ve always been a tail block fan especially on pintails. We use a bandsaw, sanding disc to shape them and glue them up with bondo (body filler). Bondo fills in the gaps and almost looks like wood.
I love your work! I’ve attached a few samples of boards Charlie Wong made for me with tail blocks. I showed you our version of the wedge pintail before.
Mahalo,

Thanks, Uncle! I love the blue/yellow pintail, very nice.
BTW, how’s the big stand-up canoe-paddle board going? Did you start shaping it? I’m in need of some measurements for a 12’ I have just been asked to shape for a friend who weighs about 200lbs. I’ve looked up Mickey Muñoz’ Super Glide but any other info is welcome.
Foamed stained yellow and blue tint makes a red-wood/balsa tail block really stand out. Manoa and I cut out two 1# EPS 12’3" blanks. Manoa just finished a jig/hotwire cutter to cut the blanks in half so we can install the stringers. I was thinking about something similar to the super glide too. I might consider making something 30" wide also.
I’ll start my super board after I finish the “wedding board”. This will be a wedding gift to my niece and I will laminate a picture of the couple. The plan is have the board situated at the guess table and to allow the guess to sign the board with a posca pen. I will later gloss and polish the board and it will be a wall hanger. I was going to make a 6’3" retro pintail single fin shape and Oneula will show me his veneer methods.
Mahalo,

"Chip and I put the blocks on with poly can’t remember if it was filler or not, Chip will remember.’
It was polyester ‘filler’ resin [‘hotcoat’, in america ?]
I let it nearly gel , before painting the wood with it . That way , we didn’t have to stand around long waiting for it to stick . And , pretty much no excess to sand off , that way.
cheers !
