What is the purpose and effect of these bottom tail channels?
Howzit Surffish, The purpose of those channels is to drive your laminater and sander crazy, that’s why they usually charge alot more to do them. Aloha,Kokua
to “channel” the water flowing accross the bottom off the board of the rear of the tail instead of flowing over the sides of the tail. Don’t know what the desired affect is, but I would expect it to reduce tail slide and increase drive.
…that, and to work pretty decently in ultra glassing conditions, luring you into believing in the concept…first day of bump, mush, or tide, it just spins out, drops out, bucking bronco…making you look like you are surfing a…jeckl and hyde!
more channels , i cant beleive i havent got any photos that shows the 6 deep channels …
i dont rate them at all …pure gimmick …
i built over 1000 of these close to 15 years ago …
the major problem is when water is flowing on an angle across the channels itll create turbulence , when your fins enter that turbulence they switch off …
one minute your about to push into a turn ,the next your on ice …
they track , they stick , there stiff then lose , down right unpredictable and ugly …
but hey , just about every grom has been sucked in by them at least once …
i found a bottom shot …
dont do it …
been there … learn form the mistakes of others …
clean simple bottoms are reliable consistent performers …
regards
