taking the stringer notch off a swallow tail

I shaped 5’6" fish and made the rail contour around the swallow tail, now I have this notch of stringer sticking out. What do you generally use to shave that off and clean it up without damaging the foam?

I only made about 5 swallow tails, didn’t like them.

Used a rattail file to cut it down close, then finished with a coping saw blade, the one’s that are about 1/8" wide.

Never could afford a dremel with cutting stone cones. Didn’t like the idea of spraying wood shavings into the foam anyways.

I use the little, “rat’s tail surform” and take it down slowly and carefully. Mike

A little square file works really well, or small round one will work also. My favorite: a razor blade, I just carefully trim that little bit off. -Carl

I might add taping the foam around the stringer to avoid the little slips. Mike
