I sound like an FCS rep here 2nd post on the subject in a day, but only because I had some
enlightening moments when installing some of their plugs on the weekend.
Without their Jig kit, had to make a few improvs. One handy thing I stumbled upon was
the use of neoprene style mouse pad with a hard plastic face. Perfect to make up a template
for the Jig, and I think very similar to what comes in their kit.
Just mark a straight line on the hard plastic surface of the Mouse pad and then lay the
base of an FCS fin down along the line with the tabs hanging over. Trace around the fin
and tabs. In doing this you’ve then got the point were the rear of your fin should be. You
will need to make a holesaw cut in the pad, using a 30mm or 1 3/16 holesaw. Place your
plugs with the groove lined up with your straight line, and on the side you traced your fin.
Then trace a line around the tab. Make a holesaw cut in some wood, and use this cut as
a guide to then make a cut in the mouse pad, through the traced plug circle.
Use a Stanley knife or razor to down your first straight line, past the point of the rear
and front of the fin base. Then make another cut parallel to this line, and remove the
portion between each line. You can then see your fin placement marking through this area
and line it up in the correct position to make your fin plug holes.
There’s plenty more info on here about cutting out holes and setting plugs etc. Hopefully
this adds to that archive.
BTW, you’ll now need a new mouse pad.
