template measurements

hey guys, so iv finished designing a template for my longboard on AKU shaper and when i cut out the template the slices are going to be every 1 inch is where il be marking to make the measure ment of the board exactly how it is. right now i have all my measurements in inchs and everything but the only thing is the mesurements are for full slices not half slices (which is what id like) and i was wondering how to divide measurements from a tape measure by two?? ( for example ) how would i divide 6 3/16 by 2?

You can do it too!

i never learnt that stuff ever lol

Part of being a shaper is splitting measurements for templating. It's easy, just double the denominator. And halve the whole # too. 6 3/16'' would become 3 3/32. etc.

You don't really need to mark every inch on your template, except maybe the extreme nose and tail. Through the center every 6'' will be fine. Batten it in, run a tape line down it to make sure it's fair, and cut as close as you're comfortable. Fair to line with planing tools and long blocks.

alright thanks that accually helps alot i was really stuck lol

thanks

Mikes method is good, but remember if the whole number is odd then you must add half to the fraction

To add fractions together the bottom number (denominator) must be the same for each, so convert the 1/2 into whatever fraction you have.

E.g.   7 3/16 divided by 2  =  3  1/2 + 3/32  =  3 16/32 + 3/32 = 3 19/32

         9 5/8   divided by 2  =  4  1/2  + 5/16 =  4  8/16  + 5/16 = 4 13/16

You could also use this calculator   http://www.helpwithfractions.com/fraction-calculator.html

Fraction 1= your measurement

Fraction2= 2

select “Divide”

Click calculate.

alright thanks guys!
