I found this at Home Depot a couple of weeks ago. “Very flexible.” I bought a piece to test for template outlines/curves, plan to give it a try @ US $2.47 a strip.

After you cut out the masonite and true up all your wiggles with sand paper or sureform, take the template and put it on edge on a flat surface and roll it from nose to tail. If it rolls smoothly, you did a good job and have smooth curves. Your done! More likely, you will feel some bounces or flat spots that indicate a bulge or flat spot. By rolling it back and forth you can narrow down the area to be retrued. If its a big ol’ flat spot, you may have to start over as you can chase those for days. Take your time cutting the buggah out or all that measuring and copying and whatnot will be wasted.
Oh yeah, if you are using masonite, be sure you wear a dusk mask or respirator…formaldehyde and other really bad stuff lurks in the dust.
hi Whitesurfboards !
Another thought …
… if you can get hold of the ‘shaping 101’ dvd , by John Carper , [? borrow from a mate * / one of the lads *? get from library ?] …
it shows there how to make a template , step by step
[He also did a ‘glassing101’, and an ‘airbrushing 101’ dvd , too, by the way ,…]
hope this helps ?
cheers mate
ben
