If you want to email me your DAT98 file (the .dv5 file), I can send you back a point file of the mold line - the outline of the board. The translator I wrote produces this data for a machine tool to be ables to cut out the board. Maybe you can use the actual point data to drive your router. What CAD/CAM system does your friend with the router use? I may already be able to translate your entire model so that your friend can just mill the preshape for you. The current version support MasterCam and SurfCam. Send the .dv5 file to .
Hi Fok, Thanks for the offer, but I’m doing fine with Illustrator, believe it or not. I’m not sure what router my friend is using, but I know it cuts 2-D and is compatible with any vector based graphics program. My idea was to get some clean curves cut using his router which would serve as templates. Meanwhile I’ve been designing some outlines in Illustrator. This one will serve as my travel board. After I got the desired outline, I drew it out onto the blank by hand. I was shocked to realize how much time I saved by pre-planning like this. I also like the freedom of manipulating the outline to get the desired curve before I draw it out onto the blank.
Greg, I am familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator as well as Image Ready. When you do your templates, do you do one half at a time and then copy the layer and then horizontaly invert to get the other half and then make it a vector shape? I would be interested in a tutorial if you have time. I have done a few templates, but nothing turned out as good as yours and I found it very time consuming. Maybe my method just wasn’t what the program was interpreting. PS: Have you heard from Deeb? I have e-mailed him and called him with no response back. Cheers, Erik http://www.mastermindsurfboards.com
