Did this thread die without conclusion?
I am not Ben but i can answer you: YES. Stiffness is give by fiber, more fiber in one direction more stifness in this direction. Because of form factor of surfboards, lenght>>width>>thickness, the biggest stress (and flex) is in lenght dierction so if you put warp glass you have more fiber in lenght direction so more stiffness and more resistance.
Sorry for my frenglish
thx, Lemet. I have no idea what I was thinking when I asked that. Duh. Seems obvious in hindsight. Of course, most things are.
Ben, I have more questions but I’m going to wait until tomorrow when I know the answers.

DS, I don't know the situation with this thread, but I do know Benjamin is actively working on the instrumented flex test project and starting to collect flex readings.
As a spin-off from the flex project he has also produced a computer shape (approx 10th version now) which is sort of a one size fits all HSPB which is working very well for both himself and his flex test riders which range from recreational to 'pro'.
yes, I’m still working on this. things are going slowly but progress is being made. I will put out a video this summer
Did you happen to try just two layers of 3 oz with both layers on a 45 degree angle?
No because I always want at least 4 axis of fibers.

Thanks for validating my typical layup of : 3 layers of 3oz. consisting of one at 0-90. and twice @ 45 and somtimes 60deg.
Been doing this for 2 years now and its fairly flexible quite light and very ding resistant…Vacuum bagged of course…
Enjoyed reading your test results… It’s gratifying to see I’m on the right track…
Long story, but the short version is here is a link to Benjamin’s testing method:

He was keen for this to be shared but said he can’t be involved in discussion at present.
Bob
I used same process, with bathroom scale but i measure deflection at same time so i can draw forces/deflection graphic and calculate energy to break by intégration. Efficient méthode for compare building. I use a laboratory evolution know, same principal, and a charppy/ izod test for dynamic impact and normelize impactor for denting resistance. Those mechanical test are used for long time in industrial designing process, they allowed many improvement of products…
