hi again Rohan ,

the first fin pictured  [ the lighter of the two fins ] ....

what wood was that you used , mate ?

and , what epoxy ?

  Lastly ....

.... how did you mould the screw tabs , please ?

   cheers , mate !

  ben

No problems Ben. Glad you thought they're worth salvaging - better than them going into the rubbish.

As I described to you, there are many flaws in them, and they will need a bit of cleaning up/finishing before they're useful.

The lighter one is Paulownia, the resin is polyester (from a hardware store) and the screw tabs are just small fin panels, cut and glued to the wooden "blank" before adding 3 layers of glass to each side of the whole lot.

And what can I say - I like big fins !!!

Cheers

Rohan

mate , the aeroplane-tail-shaped paulownia one , especially , is GREAT ... it would have been TRAGIC to have thrown it away !

thanks heaps for thinking of me , Ro !

I will try them BOTH  . I think the paulownia will be first cab off the rank , though

  cheers mate

  ben

Yep, I think I overdid the thickness on the C-Drive plywood one - the Paulownia one, not so much.

I got carried away by the thick fins vs thin fins thread I discovered on a search here at Swaylocks.

Cheers

Rohan

haha ...classic  !

even my wood fin box ones are not THAT thick .

But I will ride it as is ...maybe it will be good with the extra weight and thickness to slow the mal down / hold it in , possibly for some noseriding attempts ? I guess that time will tell, eh ?

  cheers mate !

  ben

p.s.-

this "may " interest you ?

Craig , who I photographed surfing today , was riding a board with these ... [THREE C Drive fins ?!]
