well, I FINALLY got to test your quad fin [ / nearly a 'twinzer' setup ! ] set , that you sent me , sooo long ago !
these went GREAT today !
so , thanks very much ....
they felt faaast , had good hold , nice 'thrust' off the bottom ...
....my mate Eric commented on how fast the board went , this morning ( today was the first time in a while that I've ridden the 6'6 , with him around , at least ...somehow it seems he sees me riding my 9'4" mal [which I actually haven't ridden all that much, lately ?!] , a lot of the time , I'm taking water shots [of him , and others !] )
photos of the setup ...no photos yet of them in action , sorry , as everyone preferred surfing . [ As you would ! ....Me, included !]
but firstly , here is a very much DARKENED shot , attempting to show the double concave , the outline , the vee , the chine type rails of the Walden ...

[yes , that is carbon fibre inlay]

...to be continued ...
cheers !
ben
a few more turns and speed runs today . only knee to waist-high , but clean and empty little rights , peelers ...yeww !
I'm LOVING the feeling of this setup !
I think the walden is just the right board for these waves at the moment , and this fin setup seems to work just FINE !
It will be fun when it gets bigger , test the holding ability of the twinzers . SPEED certainly ain't a problem with them , that's for sure ! [....there's plenty of speeeeddd available !] They feel nice and controlled in waves up to chest high , so far ...
...more to come ...
cheers Sjoerd !
ben
Ben, swap em around too, front to back. Might get a pleasant surprise.
Thank You Ben!
I’m so stoked to make you happy.
Beerfan has a point, it could make the board feel very loose, but still give you good drive off the bottom, skaty styleee.
Or even try them on a smaller board, the fins will make the board go and the smaller board giving you new possibilities!
How are the “glow in the dark” fins going? Theywould give me a good reason to go out again too in this cold weather.
Thanks Ben for sharing the stoke!!!
You keep us going and inspire us to look over the horizon on our way to new ideas!
Thanks from Souly.
cheers guys
yep , Mark , I must say I prefer the twinzer type setup , personally .
I've ridden the quad / smaller back fin[s] setups heaps in the walden , and my personal 'feeling' [this is only me] is that the bigger back fins hold in the too-wide tail much better , while the li'l front one tabbers [especially when overhanging / 'forward-tabbed' , like Sjoerd's here] give JUST enough extra hold , and thrust ...LOVE it !
as you say , Sjoerd , it IS a 'skate-type' feel and style when riding these ! This week I skated a park [for the first time in ?ten years?] , so , at the moment , today I enjoyed the 'pump and drive' feeling , as opposed to the 'stand there and cruise' style of the 9'4 mal ...
I WILL be keen to try these in my 6' stub ... and ? maybe? even the 5'8 'bushfire fish' "IF" I can still paddle it [?! ] . Hopefully , when the waves get a bit more shape , size , and push than they had today [only a few months till our winter now , so .....]
cheers guys !
ben
p.s. - maybe I can send you a couple of the 'overhanging' 1 tabbers , for your latest 'speedneedle ' fish , Mark ? ... so you will have a "twinzer type" option with THAT , too ??
Yeah ben, that’s the good thing about that type of quad fim, one big fin, one small fin, you get,two very different boards. I do like the loose skatey feel, but im a twin fin fool!!. If you have any one tabbers, i’ll definately try em!!. The orange ones you gave me are glued into my pacman board!!!
"The orange ones you gave me are glued into my pacman board!!!"
yikes
.... is it possible to 'unglue' them , mate ?
sounds like you DEFINATELY need some more other one-tabbers , then , in that case ?
yes , I like the 'twin fin stabilised' option ...either the twinzer , or as a three finner , the large twinnies with either the 'nubster' [ as per the 'to nocean' thread] , or a small 'regular' template trailer fin .
I wouldn't mind getting extra plugs in the 6'6 'Gunther Rohn' , to see how a twinzer pintail will go in winter stuff here ...and also try the twinzer setup , in the 6'3 rounded square 'Island Surfboards' thruster ....
it would be an interesting feeling , to compare with riding them in my short stubby fish , that's for sure !
...to be continued , one day...
