The cheapest possible surfboard build.

hiya  spuddups !!

yes it is ‘unfortunate’ they no longer have a user location thingy here at swaylocks eh ?

I am nowadays [since may this year]  from victoria in australia , previously from west australia [ and …from sydney,  before that ] …

YEP , like you guys , there are also some low wages here , and supplies in country vic are not always easy / cheap to come by , either …

I have recycled  a fair few  boards , as I said in my earlier post , and … I  also recycle fins .

[if you wanted to ] please feel free to  look up ‘chipfish61’ [previous first username here ]  , there are a few strip and reshape threads, here  … Did my first in 1985 ,  and I have been doing ‘el cheapo[s]’ from  2004 onwards …

as I say , I would spend the money on a good blank nowadays , if I had it , as …

… after doing all but two of my boards from stripped and reshaped single fins , it would now be nice / easier / quicker / less hassle  [for me , anyway !] to do it with a pristine blank .  but that’s just me . I fully understand where you are coming from , as I have done the same over the years …

  so , enjoy !

 cheers mate !

Time is extremely expensive indeed.

Finding a cheap but labor intensive build method just for saving money is stupid.

However, if you enjoy the process of building (as a hobby), the labor hours shouldn’t be counted. It’s your free time that others would use to watch TV or build model airplanes or …

Like I’m building finFoil. It would be extremely expensive if I would count my hours, and the code wouldn’t be as clean because of time pressure. But I give it away for free, because it is being build during my commute hours on the train and I enjoy doing it.

Not everybody here tries to make a living building surfboards. Please don’t forget that hobbyists have a different balance between work hour and material costs.

Without guys spending their free time trying stupid new build methods without fear to fail and waste time, there would be much less innovation.
