The Chinese can do it faster and work for less

Spring of '02 went to Costco to get large jar o peanut butter. Saw 6’6" surfboards stacked high, Stood next to stack and looked around, Stuck thumb almost all the way through glass job, 'am not into racialism. Thanks gentlemen fer yer attention, Slim Railpickens

…I’m still waiting. Socialists prey on the naive and jealous. It isn’t even real government. The functions of government are to write and enforce laws and to provide for peaceful succession. Socialism says nothing about how these basic functions should work. Socialism says only that the rich and powerful guys have to give their riches and power to everybody else. Even then, socialism doesn’t define process for this social engineering. Invariably socialist nations merely do what China does, transfer wealth and power to a new ruling class, the “party”. Thereby socialism becomes the new feudalism where people are ruled by a different set of despots, and not by democratically chosen laws. Your socialist crap seems so compassionate, Americans who want to keep their jobs are discriminating against foreigners of another race (???). But the Chinese are buying NO products made by workers from ANY other country. The Chinese government is keeping their slaves in a position where they CAN’T buy American products, or anybody else’s. Where’s the reciprocity? Where are the screams that the Chinese government is “racist”, or “bashing” of other people? Where is your compassion for people of another race from YOURS being forced to work for slave wages? I guess it’s more convenient to rag on your friends and neighbors, Dixie Chick.

China chooses its “poverty level”, and the U.S. chooses its “poverty level”. You can’t compare the two. They are at vastly different levels. Also at vastly different levels are average wages. If you can compare buying power in say, gold, please do so. Fact is, I saw it in a John Stossels report on the effects of freedom. The report went all over the world comparing average citizen income. Stossels found a direct correlation between freedom and personal wealth. Thinking the correlation could be coincidentalo to some other factor, Stossels examined other possible connections, like democracy, natural resources, and cultural longevity. No other correlation exists. Freedom is the answer, freedom to exploit other people, and freedom to be exploited. A rising tide floats all boats.

“I’m not bashing the Chinese people, and I challenge you to quote where I did.” - (Noodle – Wednesday, 30 April 2003, at 9:42 a.m.) Quote, “You lose your shaping job to a $2-per-day Chinaman” - (Noodle – Sunday, 27 April 2003, at 8:43 p.m.)

And what’s un-factual about that?

You loose to a China man, you loose to Rusty, you loose…dude, if you don’t shape and galss your own board you loose. Life is a jungle and that is it. Americans are very inovative, Japan and China and Brazil can copy very well… A board made in America isn’t better, but neither is one from China… Before you bitch, (and I doo to sometimes) look at how many products you buy are from over seas…so why the big deal over surfboards!!! I think the sole has been long gone from surfing. I liked the days of mom sewing up some board shorts, wereing clothes that didn’t have to have a brand name. The industry became soleless way before the 80’s but that was a very crucial point. People had to look cool wearing bran name sun glasses, plastering there boards with logos, wearing bright wetsuits that said (see me?)…It is a joke—mid western moms wearing Rusty t-shirts, Rusty making fun of kooks, yet laughing all the way to the bank. groms kissing his as while Joey Burran is preaching the word when he could be making lots of money in the industry… Who’s got soul, anymore…few left…MR., Burran, Skip Frye, Joe Roper, and a handlefull of other San Diegan’s and Snata Cruzers…but it is in the handfulls…oh and some Hawaiians…but there are a lot more people willing to choke you and punch your lights out for…for a wave… The best thing that happened to surfing lately is that more female have gotten into the sport…thank god, cause there is too much testotorone in the water…

Noodle, Noodle, Noodle… I commiserate with you man, I really do. Whenever someone like you brings up phrases like “losing jobs to overseas” or “the way things used to be”, I know what they really mean. They mean the good ole days when anyone who wasn’t white responded to ya with “Yes Sir, Yes Sir”, when the Confederate flag flew proudly, and all them colored folks sat at the back of the bus. Hey, back then nigger, chink, spic were all acceptable terms and were used in polite society to refer to the others. Well, it ain’t like that no more. And, I could see how you aren’t too happy about it. Yeah, back in the good ole days, nobody gave a rats ass about slave labor, or human rights, or the ills of socialism as long as you got yours. Who cares if some gook in a third world country got a bowl of rice for a day’s work as long as you could surf Palos Verdes. Now that some ching chong chinaman makes surfboards, and people in the USA are buying them, holy smokes - you got competition. We better cure all them “evil” traders before they make that gook earn that second bowl of rice with all those boards they are churning out. Wooooweee, the surf “industry” is going to hell. You all make me sick.

And where do you get any of that? Again, ascribing quotes, pulling intentions from… lala! I wouldn’t assume or assign any poster’s intentions, but I’ve discovered one thing in this thread. You’re a freaking nutcase.

Please ignore posts by this individual, he is not showing any respect to the Chinese-Americans who read this forum. How dare he continually mock us by using a racist pseudonym like “Noodle”!

Your assumptions attract a little criticism and you flail away with insults. Asshole , eat a fat one , and freaking nut case. As I see it , they can easily be directed at you. Your use of absolutes with “everybody” and “Always” don’t go very far with your political views. If you spoke like that to someone’s face they would lay you out like a punk.

Okay, You’re a “racist bastard” who “bashes” other people to suit your “precious” views. You didn’t say any of those things? Tough shit. I know how people like you think. I know how you hate whitey. If you can’t figure this guy out, I can’t help you. Get a brain.

this thread has me longing for those sweeter, simpler times when we amused ourselves with tales of mexicans being punched out at gas stations. this place has gone to hell! Dixie Chick!!! THAT was f’ng great.

This thread is getting a bit off topic. I’m about to pull it if people don’t stop throwing jabs.

PLEASE DO!

Yessiryyyy , Mr. Chinaman Mr. Noddleson , if livin’ in yer home town, would be considered a freedom fighter. He would also be, after that lovely thought of freedom, be shot fer treason. PS Dear Mr. Swaylock just let this one ride into the sunset, Though it may take a while, leave it alone Thanks Gentlemen fer yer attention Slim R.

…The offshoreboards are FAR FROM being better, …an old saying,“you get what you paid for”, …Blanks: are soft, inconsistant, yellow quick(really quick!),they DING easily(very brittle),and also delams rapidly.Did I mention snaps in half in a short time. …Stringers: are cheapest door skin (mohog usually)glued in w/a waterbased glue. …The paint fads rapidly, and in a few months changes color or vanishes into a bland spotty mess, …Lamination:Is rolled/rap just to the apex of the rail,so if you bump it ,the rail glass will split like a seam, also the boards are overly heavy do to over use of lam resin, and porious blanks sucking up lots of resin. …Hotcoats:Are just the opposite, thin and scant. …Sanding:They are overly sanded, and under sanded at the same time. They are burned to the limit,by factory workers worried about production rates ,rather than the board. …Gloss, this will kill you,it’s not glossed,it’s coated with lacquer, than looks for the most part clean, and glossy,it also covers the burned up stuff real well…or should I say “falsely well”?When you go to fix even the most minor of dings the lacquer chips, and delams around the ding area ,and what happens is you eventually have to strip the whole surface, leaving a SUPER overly sanded soft blanked mess ready for the grave. …There’s more but I’ll spare the rest,I know this because I watched these things from day one since Ron Jon’s started selling them ,like 5-7 years ago,and was interested in how a board could be built/sold so cheaply. And I do mean CHEAPLY!I also worked for a few dings shops back then, til a year ago or so as a trouble shooter, and consultant,I saw enough of them to know that they’re junk, and within 6mos to a year most of these prized offshore boards were snapped in half, delammed grossly,or dinged up so bad that they looked worst than a daily user board that was 10 fold older…That’s the TRUTH,like it or not.Herb

I should be ashamed to admit it. I’ve only ordered one custom board. But I’ll >bet a dollar to your dime that 80% of boards are sold off the shelf. It’s just >too convenient for surfers who want to ride their new cool board TODAY!>>>So only 80% of the surfboard market is threatened by Asian workers… no >worries mate. Well, if 80% of the surfing customers don’t need a or buy a custom, what do we need the small custom builders for anyway? Either that or you guys have a misson to tell the public that they would surf better on a custom, or maybe that’s not the truth? regards, Håvard

You should try talking to someone from China. Last time I talked to one he said 5 years ago he made $50, but he could live off it because the goverment provided him with housing, dental care, medical care, etc. and prices were low. He also said that now you would make about $400. Not much, but their getting there. And the only way for them to become ‘like us’ is through industrial growth. Have a look at the Russian economy and you’ll see what I mean. Change of goverment will only throw a country into chaos, atleast for the short term. When 13% of the people in your country is living below the povertyline I’d say capitalism isn’t working all that great either. Too few people getting more then their share and alot of workers getting less then theirs in your country too. Or maybe capitalism is working just great, since you’re loosing your jobs to the people that are able to do the same job for less pay (and they are able to live off it. That’s slavery, right?) so a few can make even more money. I read an article some time ago about a snowboard factory in the far east somewhere where they had two persons doing quality control at each step in the assambly line. They could also could also afford to reject more boards because of the cheap labor. I’d say it’s more then likely that they the customer ended up with a better product. Bdw. I don’t believe in capitalism nor sosialism, but the middle road. You know why? Because humans are by nature greedy. Greed causes both systems to fail, albeit in different ways. You can try to control both in different ways, but most ways of controlling it poses restrictions that changes the system and pulls it closer to the middle road. I do believe that a goverment should care for all their people for the good of all their people, even those that are unable to contribute to society. Second note, compared to other goods in the US, like clothes, food, cars, other sports equipment, etc. I think surfboards are quite expensive. Definitly not for a handcrafted item, but since Ford we’ve sort of stopped building just about everything that way. If we can’t move forward we might as well hand over the jobs to those who are willing and able to do the same job for less. Oh yeah, I’m propably overpaid like hell too, just don’t tell my boss I said that. Last note, epoxy boards ding too. DAMN! regards, Håvard
