SWAYLOCKIAN OF THE YEAR! :

The categories are…

The Best Instructional Thread: TSaunders – Step-by-Step D fin

Best Photo Thread : MaxMercy’s epoxy gloss thread. Since we don’t have a “Best Video” thread (and we should) I’ll also vote for TSaunders’s resin swirl video.

Person Whom I’d Like A Board Shaped By: sunsetpoint – theboys’s thread had me drooling…and then (after winning the lottery) I can have Darth Vader to the color work!

Most Creative Person: def chipfish – that dude is stoked to the gills and could build a quad fin set using materials scavenged from what the dingos didn’t eat off that 'roo…

Most Informative Person: too close to call!

”Can I Watch Over Your Shoulder” Award: Keith Melville, for hosting the BBQ / shaping & glassing school at his house

Most Poetic: Ambrose! Why doesn’t he post much anymore?

SWAYLOCKIAN OF THE YEAR! : Keith – mad hospitality and he moderates. Can’t top that.

The Best Instructional Thread: A peak through the fin production- ProBox Larry

Most Informative Thread: CMQ, Second balsa board.

Best Photo Thread : Show us your swirls.

Most Annoying Topic: The vote is over. Nothing but “Poly vs Epoxy” can even be nominated.

Actions Speak Louder Then Words Award:

Person Whom I’d Like A Board Shaped By: Greg Griffin.

Most Creative Person: Loehr. He has ginned up more strange stuff than any metaphor your can think of. (“…of which you can think.” for all you English majors)

Most Informative Person: Bill Barnfield. Never miss his posts.

”Can I Watch Over Your Shoulder” Award: Darth Vader. PLEASE CAN I WATCH? PLEASE?

Know It All: Janlow. (Ha. But I still read all your posts. So there ya go. Hope you will forgive me.)

Most Poetic: Ambrose

Most Wise: Loehr. With an engineering degree, he would be rich of his patents. And he’d probably spend less time in the water, so never mind.

Most Inspirational: DarthVader. Such a colorful guy.

Most Likely Not To Get A Board From: Jim Phillips. I’d be dead before he got to me.

Best Quote: Roy: my 15 foot wooden board is faster than your foamee.

Grom Most Likely To Succeed At Being A Professional Shaper:

Innovation In Fin Design: Blakstha hands down

Who’s Quiver I’d Most Want To Raid: Paul Jensen

“I know I’m right, because the laws of physics are wrong.”:

“This board only took me about a year to finish.”:

Best HWS Board: Paul, the one built by the guy who’s board you posted for him. Name? I would name you, Paul, but this guy was 2007.

Best Compsand: Benny1

SWAYLOCKIAN OF THE YEAR! : Shouldn’t Mike P win this at least once?

Sure there’s enough categories?

But most informative for me would have to be…

  1. Bill Barnfield. The longboard rail bands thread really got me thinking. The snapped board repair was very helpful too.

  2. Silly for his silly method. Now I can make blanks for cheap and run everyone out of business! Well actually, no, not really, it just costs a lot less when I bin them.

Honourable mention

Spamspam101 for taking the time and effort to show us his glassing skills.

Oldham for the nicest compsands I’ve ever seen.

I know I’m right because the laws of physics are wrong.

That’s easy. Me. One of these days I will be right!

Best avatar

SWAYLOCKIAN OF THE YEAR! :

MC John “Is that sun, I’d better get my sombrero” Mellor

Person Whom I’d Like A Board Shaped By: Mike Daniel, Greg Liddle, Greg Griffin, and me, for Pete’s sake! (3 gregs!)

Most Creative Person: Sjoerd, or SURFFOILS maybe

”Can I Watch Over Your Shoulder” Award: Silly, Mike Daniel, Jimthegenius, Greg Liddle, the fin molders/foilers Sjoerd and SURFFOILS, Liddle, Halcyon, and the rest

Know It All: whew, good thing we don’t have any of those around here!

Most Poetic: 'twould be meself–actually, I vote for the new hull aficionado

Most Eco-Friendly: Paul (pick one)

Most Wise: Thy name is MODERATOR

Most Helpful With Website Issues: well… Hicksy

Most Inspirational: llibel (Jeff) for insane craftsmanship, Greg Griffin for that and his life and his no bullshit attitude and of course his understanding and design innovation, Mr Liddle for his artful planing, passion, zen, and a ride I think I’m made for, Ben for his stoke, silly for his passion and innovation and environmentalism and noble loyalty, Sjoerd for brave, intelligent designs, Herb for hangin’ in there, awesome ideas, and sharing some brilliant ideas now in wide use, consafos for his friendship and work and friends that stoke me out, Dale for similar reasons and for pushing fun

Most Well Rounded Swaylockian: Mike Daniel for shaping, shaping stoke, good humor, gentlemanly demeanor, good verbiage, friendliness, diplomacy (*my choice is only slightly heaped with personal bias!)

Best Story Teller: I have to say, I quite like Koochekoo’s style and stoke

Best Avatar: Bill Thrailkill for epicness, maybe Koochekoo for fun and killerness, mine as Sways esoterica

“Call Me and Let’s Talk” Award: Mike Daniel

Innovation In Fin Design: Derek Hynd, Dale Solomonson, Dan Malloy, Greg Griffin, solosurfer, Larry

“My stick is bigger than yours !”: Tom Wegener

“Clark who?”: everybody

“This board only took me about a year to finish.”: ME, and John Mellor

Best website outside of Swaylock’s: The growing number of killer surfblogs.

SWAYLOCKIAN OF THE YEAR! : silly

Most honorable mention: MIKE PALER

Biggest Surf Hype?

Post-Clark boom product, with by all accounts what is usually a multi-board learning curve, which is very temperature-sensitive, can’t be colored easily, blushes, froths, yellows, bubbles, pinholes, exotherms, and yet is more expensive than the product it is trying to replace without any of those. Let the sins be the signature of the name.

Time to look back on 2007…
