The Future of Fins.

Without making it sound like an advertisement for Futures Fins, has anyone got any new fin designs or developments beyond the commercial shapes ??

Im working on a new fin design myself but Im keen to see if others are working on new fin designs too..?

What are you guys up to  ???

you just inspired me to work on the invisible fin.

created by a small turbine induction port

that would be stiffer the faster you go

by adjusting the angle of attack of

the leading edge you could

change the effected turning radiius.

the slower you went the softer

the cord of water and the more the side slip

perhaps the fin should be made from clear

supple plastic or rubber.

And not just rely on the

water jet’s resistance that could

be effected by outside turbulence.

Thats enough work for now.

…ambrose…

now I will work on

interstellar spatial management

of three pillows orbiting my head

on a 7’X7’

padded plane.

thats what I call work,

and my wife calls it sleep

ha! Is she ever deluded.

I’ll take four please…

how is YOURS coming along , Brett ??

cheers !

I know, but I can't tell!   ;-)

Hahahaha!  Bill…

Where’s Larry and Robin? They should have some pretty interesting ideas.

Yeah, those guys would know whats new beyond cosmetics and flex rehashes that you get from the companies.

Like the "Thick board, Skinny rails" thread that prompted lots of people to come forward with their versions, Id like to see what home grown fins are out there.

Ive already shown my new idea to  Bill Thrailkill,  TaylorO  and  Ben (chips)  for their input and assessment,  but I wanted to see what others are up to, even if its just a theory or prototype.

Yo Surffoils,

I concure with Ambrose regarding the small induction port.

Mine like his are invisible  but then strangely

they begin to sprout in my backyard.

However mine come from extrastellar spacial management

and as always doing my best work when I’m asleep (-;

Forget Centrifigul force ~ I’m jetting out of Centripetal force.

Aloha, Rich

Why do those guys get a preview ??

good question ....

especially since i'm only a 'tinkerer' ,  when it comes to fin stuff ! ...how about YOU , FINbar , got any interesting fins going on that you'd like to share ??

  cheers mate

  ben

'Cuz I freely post pics of my “custom” fins…  Ha!

Now go out and tubercul some and see for your self!!!

Or at least put some freakin’ MVG’s on that thing…

What are MGVs ? Any pics or should I trawl thru the resources or Google ?

hiya Brett ,

well , maybe they could be fins made by a new Hollywood studio ...

  Metro Goldwyn , Vere [ are you"?]    [? ..... am I close ?]

cheers

 ben

[instead of a roaring lions head for their ...er.... logo , maybe they have ? Allen Sarlo's?  or sumtin']

here ya go , brett .....

the name mark spindler popped into my head , and voila !

[if this doesn't work for some reason ?  just type in mark spindler and MGV's in the empty white rectangle next to 'forums' , top right corner of this page , and click 'go' ]

  cheers mate  !

  ben

Brett , well it's NOT really "new" fin development , but I must say I'm still enjoying riding my boards with a 6 1/2 - 7" back fin , and uncanted bonzer runner-type sideys in the fcs and proboxes ....fast , hold , thrust .... it feels good to me , at least !

okay .....3rd time lucky , hopefully ?!  ['copy and paste' used THIS time , so ...here goes , Brett ! ....]

Hi Ben great thanks for the links, I do remember the thread. Those MVGs are fascinating things.

Hi FInbarsaunders, Ben(chips) is on the list because of the volumes of fins hes made.

TaylorO is on the list because hes an innovative guy.

And Bill Thrailkill is on the list because hes probably forgotten more about design than I'll ever know.

seems to me some of you guys need to do some serious  time foiling fins  ( every  day  like?)

this heading should read finless boards this too will pass       meanwhile ill just go on my way  as i have for the last 50 yrs haaaaaaa’’

This is my last ,fin project inspired by retro bolt tread...carbon and maple

Nice fin CS - I should take a picture and post of the paddle fin I made, similar, but with stainless steel too.

Huie - I think you may be a bit confused.  Surfoils fin(s) are fins, I think the other gentlemen are playing, what may be for you and your fellow country men, an understated joke…

Ben - Stoke you put all that up for Brett, that is the real deal.

Brett - look up tubercels too, humpback whale fins…

Great fin, love the contrast between the classic wood and modern carbon.

Those MVGs make me question how deep the effect is on the following fin if theyre <1 in high, or is the effect more important close to the hull because of the area of the base ?

TaylorO, I checked out Tubercles too, all very interesting stuff, theres such a variety of possibilities and to find out which ones can successfully translate to surfboard design.

Ive been musing over the potential of ideas like..

fins with variable rake dependant on speed,

leading edge slats like MVGs but along the whole leading edge,

  fins with split blades.

Stuff like that.............
