The gun is done, the gun is done ... WOOHOO

Some vacuum bag issues and a couple other ‘learn the hard way’ experiences caused some flaws in the glass, but nothing critical. And it still looks good.

My first attempt at airbrushing … will do things a little different next time, but it looks nice overall.

Here are some pics.

did you paint your lam coat?

I did paint the artwork on top of the lam coat … if I had it to do over, I’d do it differently … perhaps on top of the hotcoat, then with an extra hotcoat or several coats of clear urethane over it or something. I prefer to have paint covered by as much protection as possible but it was a pain glassing over it, though the bigger problem by far came from the failed homemade vacuum bag and the need to quickly tape everything down before it began setting (texalium does not go around rails without something to hold it.)

AWSOME!

Release the hounds!

Did you get together with Bill Thrailkill on that box setup and the duel 45 degree carbon fiber fins?

Actually, Bill probably wouldn’t have done the 45 degree glassup because of the flex that would come with those fins.

Anyhow, that is a beautiful board and an interesting setup. I’d like to hear how she rides.

Please keep us posted!

Kawika

Yea that’s Bill’s design … but no carbon fiber … those are just glass with texalium placed over top by me.

I’m optimistic about it … can’t wait to paddle it out next chance I get …

billy it blows my mind how many boards you pump out.

get that thing in the water and tell us how she rides! im curious about that dual-plug business and the fin set up.

looks awsome EndlessWinter!

i’m really interested to hear how you take to the twin fin.

are you going to be coming back to Northern California to test it out?

if i remember right, you surfed big Moss Landing…

More accurately I tried to surf big Moss Landing and got my *ss beat all over the place … haha …

I’m not giving up yet though. Just gonna take smaller steps on my way. I handled it OK when head high, though it was exhausting, but paddling out that next day when it was 15’ might have been a little too ballsy I guess … oh well … maybe someday.

Forgive me if I missed mention of texalium in an earlier post or reply, but what is it and where would one obtain it?

Kawika

Texalium is a special glass fabric with a coating of aluminum on one side. It’s available in colors as well as just bare metal.

I got it from Fiberglass Supply in Washington.

It seems to be tough stuff … though it does take on some resin … good for a gun I suppose since you want the weight there.
