While the revolutionary foil shape of the fin will not be revealed in this discussion, an additional feature that has been added will be. A ‘‘Shark Skin Texture’’ has been added, to further increase the hydrodynamic efficiency of this remarkable fin breakthrough. And it does. It will be hereinafter be referred to as SST. Even the performance of existing ‘‘normal’’ fins, can be significantly improved, by the application of SST technology, to the fins surface. I thought a few folks might be interested in what was going on with this little project. Oh, it really is NOT a hoax. It’s for real! Just thought I’d mention that.
My experience was in the inside surf zone, close to the point, at Makaha. I was skindiving, and followed an 8 foot Black Tip Reef Shark, about 20 feet behind him. He turned so abrubtly, it looked like his head slid along his body, as he reversed direction. I just about filled my trunks! Like I said, quite alarming. Needless to say, that put an end to diving, that day. It has to be seen, to really appreciate it, eh?
I have no idea what is going on in this thread, but I rode the longboard that Balsa made me with your twin-single fin setup and it was a most enjoyable session.
The food was there. The opening post indicated there would be no discussion of the foil of the fin. The update is about the surface texture treatment that mimics sharkskin, and is a further enhancement to the hydrodynamic performance of ANY existing fin. The food was there.
I once epoxied a 16 ounce budweiser can on to a 6’5 that had lost its fin. Did it as a joke but the damn thing worked. Rode it at Ala Moana for three days till i knocked it off. Back then the cans were real tin and not this wimpy ass aluminum like we have today.
i often wondered why in all these years 99per cent of the fins still look like they came of the back of some kind of damn fish. Where is the creativity???
didn't someone come out with a shark skin texture spray on kinda thing for bottoms of boards? (in the 70's) seems like i read about it in one of the mags back then....if so, is that how you are applying the texture?
It is a little known fact that deep underground Bunkers were dug into the Bluffs all along the California coast. Seems that Bill has found the one that is located under the SRF Temple overlooking Swamis. It is here that he works on his top secret projects.
Shark skin technology., is difficult to work with. Sharks do not give up their skins easily
Hi Bill, Just wondering if you still surf and if you’ve tried this out yourself or if you are basing this off of Herb’s ride reports. Also how might I ask are you getting this shark skin surface on to the fins? Thanks for answering or not my questions.
I’m not marketing (selling) anything. You, nor anyone else, can buy an example of the fin foil or the surface treatment. It’s simply not available, unless I decide to give it as a gift. Which has been done, on a limited basis.
Ben, you need counciling. Is your fixation on what’s between mens legs because of your own lack thereof? Seems to me it is. Don’t you ever get tired of flaunting your ignorance? You come across as a sad, self loathing little person, struggling for attention. Why not channel your energy into creating something of value. Like a new fin design, board design, or fin box design. It’s not that difficult. I’ve done all three before. Perhaps you can too. EXAMPLE: I did tri-fin thruster setups in 1964, and in 1970/71 created removable side fins that required no tools or screws. Get it? Produce something more than controversy.
Ben CREATES a ton of fins and GIVES them away. Seems to me like his sole purpose on this message board is to spread stoke. Through picture threads, fins, etc.
Create, implies originality. Something not previously done before. Ben MAKES a lot of fins. Creates? Not so much, IMO. Enthusiasm (stoke) is no substitute for substance. What you are calling the ‘‘spread of stoke’’ sure looks like ‘‘Hey, look at me!’’ self promotion. Nothing wrong with that if done in a tasteful way.
