The Ideal Fish?

Gazro/Tenover,

Thanks for trying to encourage me but I’m afraid it’s simply not possible for me at the moment. I would love to make my own boards and also some for my mates but it’ll have to wait 'til I’m in a position to do so.

Cheers

 Malc

Malcatron,

did you order a board in the end? If you did, who did you go with and have you got it yet?

I ask because I’m in much the same position as you (were), fancying a fishy thing, not in a position to build my own and not really knowing who to go to for it.

Thanks

Tom

i lived in the UK for a while and i checked out a few boards and stuff over there. there are some guys who are making them. just watch the quality though, there is a big market in beginners surfboards over there. these are the UK shapers ones i would recomend you contact.

www.if6was9.co.uk

from what i have seen of these boards, this is they guy i would go to. they are doing twin keel fish same as what you will get in the us as well as old school logs and eggs. resin tints etc. check their website, it takes an eternity to load up but the boards look nice.

www.nineplus

has a fish design, and they import Joel tudor boards so they may have his fish or be able to get one.

Cheers Mick,

if6was9 boards look tasty, nice site too.

I’ve tended to shy away from 9+ because they seem pricey, so I dread to think what they’re asking for a JT board. Also prefer to buy something made locally, if possible. Good to have options though.

Hi Tom,

I’ve ordered a board from Odd surfboards in Porthcawl, South Wales (http://www.oddsurfboards.com). They’re just down the road from me and after talking to the owner Alby and having a look around the workshop I felt confidant that he could make me what I was after, and was a real nice guy to boot. Alby’s son, Dan Harris, is a very good surfer competing at national and european levels and he rides a 5’7" Odd Fish. He has had several shaped helping his dad to fine tune the design.

I ordered the board on Saturday (30th April) and should have it in about 2-3 weeks. I went all out and got a gloss polish and resin tint which bumped the price up and also takes a little longer to complete.

When the board is ready and I’ve had a chance to try it out I’ll post some photos and let you know what it’s like. I’m sure it’s going to take a bit of getting used to but I can’t wait to give it a go!
