Yeah, he ran from the USA after getting in legal trouble. Plus, he was escaping the crowds that he helped create by making the Gidget, Wild the Wild Surf, and other type movies. He used to steal tires and burn them on the beach. Plus, he was known to throw the surfboards of other surfers into the bonfires at Malibu and especially San Onofre. He was a great noserider. Why can’t we just leave it at that?
mouse man you didnt answer my question, please dont respond unless you have useful information to my query.
Just heard this by way of joe t. at www.surfbooks.com “this by way of Malcolm at http://www.legendarysurfers.com Author David Rensin has begun the authorized biography of Miki Dora.” from http://www.legendarysurfers.com " AUTHORIZED DORA Author David Rensin has begun the authorized biography of Miki Dora. Recently, he wrote, in part: “Hi Malcolm, “Beside being a great fan of your comprehensive and compelling site – oral history is my passion; the ten books I’ve written or co-written have always been in the voices of others – I have recently been asked by Miklos Dora Sr. and authorized by… Miki’s estate to be the official biographer. “… My goal over the next few years, after interviewing what I’m sure will be hundreds of people who knew Miki, is to put together the ultimate oral biography. I’m already off to a great start. “Given who he was, many have pieces of Miki’s “puzzle” – I also met with him for a piece I did about Mik in California Magazine in 1983 – but no one has it all. The oral approach will finally collect those pieces (as you have also done quite well in your booklet) and a new picture will emerge that will be more complete yet, because of the many points of view, still preserve the mystique Dora so cherished. “I’m not really trying to figure out Miki; the result wouldn’t be Miki. Nor is my aim to inflate the legacy or trash it. With Miklos’s backing I just want to do a fair and balanced portrait of the human being – something often missing from mix. “… Please spread the word…” So, who should David interview, besides the obvious? Have any input on this one? If so, let me know and I’ll get you in contact with David directly. " aloha
I hear Stacy Peralta (Dogtown & Z Boys) is making a movie about Dora.
Woody Allen already made a movie about Miki Dora. It was called “Take the Money and Run.” Do you know why Dora didn’t CHARGE big waves? They found out his credit cards were stolen. The guy was a legendary noserider. The crap that came out of his mouth and his actions on land were not exemplary by any means. Dora would disapprove? Then it must be good.
