THE NEW "What are you working on?" THREAD!!!

Howzit Mike - I went & found great DOH or less surf on both east & west sides during the really BIG stuff, so this one is still a virgin!

Funny you spotted that - extra space is non-existent in my little box so I’m trying to get rid of everything I haven’t used in the last year; That surform & pleskunas block included, but it has the microscreen blade on it so I know as soon as I store it away or give it away I’ll wish I had it for some new situation

Wouter,

I thought you might like it.

Here’s another little jem for you…team rider Allie Brown

A nice little hack

The boards not to bad either.

Old & New

I'm working on a copy of my all-time favorite board.  I purchased this Natural Art back in 1989 and rode it till it began to fall apart.  This fall I pulled it out from under the house one day and took it out for the first time in over 10 years.  Ended up riding nothing else ever since.  Had so much fun on it that I absolutely had to try to reproduce it.

After 2.5 hours in the dungeon tonight I wrapped up shaping this board.  For whatever reason this board fought me every step of the way.  Its alot easier to make an original board than it is to copy an existing board.

The nose really fought me to get it right.  The original board had a little less nose rocker than the blank I am working with so it was very difficult to persuade the new board to accept the flatter nose rocker and get everything to flow.  Spent about an hour and a half on the nose of this board before I was satisfied.

This one is ready for paint and I will be glassing it this weekend.

Hey Bud

Is that Makita up on the wall your lap grinder?

I’m too friggin scared of mine to grind laps with it.

I might just have to get over it though.

Im working on a strip n salvage. I normally wouldn't, but i have 3/4'' on each side, width wise to play with, ans the original board is 3'' thick, with a flat deck, and angular rails, so i think if i take my time i'll be ok. Stripping is gunna suck for sure, but im in no hurry.

Its my beloved twin keel. I picked it up this morning ( very small waves here ), but after riding my other twin fin ( which is much lighter ), i realised its too heavy, which is great for dings, but lately im loving my lighter twin fin, and haven't been surfing the keel fish due to the weight. I have ground off the keels, which are black and white fibreglass. May start another thread, but, as im not in a hurry, might not be for a while. Going from 6'2'' x 16 x 22 x 16 x 3, down to 6' ish x 14 1/2ish x 20.5ish x 15ish x 2 3/4ish. Not so woriried about bringing the thickness down too much, but the widepoint is a bit closer to the centre, and the nose is a bit more narrow than the tail. Looking for a bit of back foot action. Who knows what will happen.

Cheers

…i’m just working on getting used to riding this.

finished it up a few weeks back - took me about 6 weeks working here and there in the evening after the kids went to bed…this is my 1st board from start to finish & I’m hooked. my second board is waiting for fin boxes…I’m about to have my third child (boys) so I thought I’d better get off my ass and learn how to make boards!

Sweet my favourite thread re-invented!

nice looking stuff everyone, I have almost finished this one, just need to put the leash plug in and then sand, sand, sand…

Posted it elsewhere on this site, 5’8" x 20 something Agave stringered mini simmons inspired thing!

Hey… I’m only new to this board making lark and am slightly
embarressed to be posting pics up along side the pieces of art and true
craftmanship which are on display on these forums, but anyway…

Here
are the latest two of my three boards. A 7’6" Mini mal (which ended up
being a 7’5"). Artwork was spraypaint on hot coat and sealed with clear
coat.

2nd board is my attempt at a Mini Simmons.A 6’6" x 23 x 3.
It’s like paddling my other 8ft board! First time using tints in resin
and my first time doing a cut lap, didn’t bother putting pin lines on
it yet, was too eager to get it in the water…

currently busy glassing a little flexispoon kneelo

love these things

now winters here its time to get on it while the factory is quiet

so hope you like it

yeah i love colour. very subtle

Painted and almost ready for glass.  Just need to seal the paint after it dries and mark out for my fin boxes.

A 9' 4" solid longboard and playin with some early twinnies!

wow wee look’n busy kayu stack em up. Looks like someone is making some xmas gifts. I love a twinnie cant wait to se how they all turn out.

9’4" by 30 sup, stringerless with 6 lb foam inserted down the center of a 9’8" blank.

Just finished the flip, now to hotcoat the bottom.

So Bro!   Why six pound?  How wide down the center?  Where did you accquire 6 lb.?  Oh and by the way since I know you are still working off those TDI Vegas blanks I was wondering if you combined 6 lb. EPS with the TDI and Epoxied oh what?

When I picked up blanks from the echotech meltdown, I had ten or so blanks in my pile that were tests, a few were marked with the chemical make up, all of them had weight/density labels. One blank is a 9’4" that weighs less that 3 lbs unskinned, no stringer.

(turns out the foam guy involved in echotech was the special effects foam expert for most of Vegas, building all kinds of sets and props from foam, he may have known foam but marketing, not so much)

The 6 lb blank had some boogers so I cut out its center 8 inches and used it to widen another blank I split. Its stringerless except for the PU glue so I am hoping the heavier foam keeps the board in one piece. I used a triple 6 deck and double 6 bottom with a tail patch.

I am surfing a 9’1/4" stringerless longboard, PU/PE and loving the flex. Much more feel snd constant than a step deck, which I think hinges when noseriding. So far, its held up well.

I still have 40 of those echotech blanks but for the sup stuff, I go with USBlanks 9’8" uncut, no stringer and do the width build up myself.

Surfinghigh!  That all makes sense to me.  I have heard of guys taking the cut-offs form the Echotech and appying them to EPS shortboard blanks to function as parabolic stringers.  The TDI being denser and therefore stronger.  I have a bunch of 11'0's that I can add a center to with off-set gluelines that will give me a nice SUP blank.  It's all good. Sent you a PM.  I've also got a couple of freebees for you if you want them when I bring all my $#!t back up that way.  Lowel

This morning first thing I set the leash plug.  At lunch time I flipped the board and installed the fin system..  I am using the Surf Source Standard Fin System.

These are super easy to install.

After going for a surf in some flawless 6 to 8 foot offshore barrels courtacy of yesterday's blizzard, I came home and got back to work.

Got busy grinding down the fin boxes and fine sanding the tail.

Fins came out perfectly.

I'm going to give this one a few more days for the glass job to cure and then I will do the final wet sand and polish.  This one is basically done.  10 days from now this one will be fully cured and ready to surf.  After the holidays I will be back with board #3 and board #4.  This board came out great.  My best yet.
