I am aware that we exist in a world full of compromises and benefits, but I'm wondering if I can actually kill two birds with one stone here....
I need a board for solid, open water big surf - shifty beachbreak in the DOH range (Widowmaker style board in the 7ft region would do the trick for me) but my wife also needs a board that will trim nicely in little peelers and turn from the middle with out too much effort. A 7'2" singlefin egg would be fit for purpose here, probably.
Anyone managed to strike a balance between small wave trim and hold/drive in steeper, bigger surf? A modified speed egg type board? A fuller template, widepoint forward glidey kinda thing with the right rail/bottom shape/ rocker to both hold in steep faces and also have a nice flow in waisthigh peelers?
Christenson's 'Osprey' (formerly 'Lunchbox') model, seems to have the sort of outline I envisage for this Jekyll-and-Hyde type endeavour:
But, I was thinking of a 10in box with some Lokbox side boxes to offer up a bit of versatility....
Any thoughts much appreciated (I'm particularly interested in rail details - I'm guessing low, but boxy, with an edge reasonably far up maybe?)
