I decided the filter between my brain and my fingers was faulty.

Can you show me where Roy said that please.

I thought he just stated the board would work better than other long boards at Pipe.

Thanks!

Based on those photos(and report) it looks like that board worked damm fine at Pipeline.

Could be time for a little re-calibration from the nay-sayers.

And with plenty of west swell looming it’ll be interesting times to say the least.

Mods, with real info now coming in to the mix please allow discussion to proceed.

Steve[i]

I re-read my post and realized it was unnecessary.

Mahalo

Ease up on the backpedal and spin doctoring mate.

Doubt whether many people would consider a snapped out fin at Pipe a failure of the board’s performance there.

Be interesting to see whether the chief naysayers are man enough to come on here and admit there statements were premature and just plain wrong.

ie…the board clearly rides the tube better than any longboard from the 50’s. 60’s etc etc.

Would like to see the video from that session.

Also , a compelling argument could be mounted that Pipe/Backdoor at that size would actually have a greater degree of difficulty due to the tighter angles involved.

Looks like the extra rocker fitted in just fine.

Steve

I think Roy asked all those who want to seriously discuss what’s up with the board to do it on the Compsand.com website where he is also a moderator and won’t get booted off.

The discussions there have been both cordial and educational as have the same discussions on the tree2sea website where there isn’t alot of the emotional baggage that the surfermag bb and this bb have regarding the whole project.

A new and much stronger replacement fin was supposed to show up today via express mail to be put on the board.

Garrett has already committed to trying it on second and third reef pipe where it makes more sense with something that big. He’s probably one of the few guys out there that can actually pull it off without killing himself or someone else. You can see he quickly learned something when he took the leash off after the first big wipe out. I don’t think he’s going to use a leash again. Roy said he did a hell of a job trying to control it in the tube frontside and backside in 4-6 pipe standing as far back as he was. But its a learning experience and Garrett’s bound to figure it out… 4-6 is the most nasty sized pipe, more people get hurt or die in that size pipe than anything else. Nathan Fletcher blew his knee out for the season a couple days earlier in the same size surf. the photog Jon Mozo drowned in similar size surf.

Haleiwa Bill has been keeping me updated and from what I understand the next attempt will be heavily filmed as the word is out all over the northshore photogs. But with hawaiian size 25 footers coming in tomorrow and stormy 50 mph SW winds I don’t think it’ll be this week end. They are semi considering holding the Eddie which I’m sure Garrett must be part of somehow too.

Our disaster folks have already put out an alert to batten down the hatches and all loose items and be prepared for possible power failure and high wind damage tomorrow and friday.

The weather this past month has been really awful.

Lots of flood and no-power damage done all over the island.

5 million in losses so far on oahu from the floods

enough to get declared a federal disaster zone for FEMA aid.

With the failing economy it couldn’t be happening at a worse time

one of our employees parent’s house burnt to the ground when a power surge after the power came up shorted out and caused a fire when they were trying to find breakfast some where faraway on the island where the electricity was on…

I think Haleiwa Bill’s relatives and friends in Wailua were also some of the flood victims…

its a small island…

you need to put all that into perspective as you decide what comments you want to throw out regarding this whole pipe board thing cause it is happening its just that there’s alot of other distracting stuff going over here as well…

priorities you know…

and sharkbreath…

you should get slapped on the side of the head for posting this in the first place.

everyone needs just to be patient till the event’s over and the video and pictures are posted…

then the discussion can start. It’ll happen before anyone thinks it will.

they already asked Roy to send the board over to california for the AB3 in March…

No spin doctoring mate

If you had seen any of my previous posts on the same subject matter you would have seen the exact same examples.

I have nothing against Roy and it was simply a point of view.

If you will notice I have removed the previous posts because of their potential argumentative nature.

Roy and I have been talking and he understands what I meant…that is all that matters.

Mahalo

I am happy to hear that the torch was taken up but first:

oneula:

I would like to say that I hope everyone on the islands fairs as well as possible with the coming storm(s) and that everyone finds some where safe to be.

I would also like to say that the nay-sayers of the nay-sayer say-e say things (did I spell that right?) inviting the other people on this forum to come and eat crow is not very helpfull in keeping this conversation on the right track.

Every dog has his day.

Let sleeping hulls lie…I think that’s how it went.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing more after things get under control on the islands.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

You stay safe my friend.

And you better keep my letter opener safe too!!! LOL(just kidding)

Aloha

well what d’ya know!!

This is just me, but…

What is the point?

Seriously. I’ve seen guys surf an actual door (with no knob) in credible surf. I believe Donovan Frankenrieter (sp?) was

a ‘pro’ surfer involved. Only dropping this for resourcefulness.

That being said… again, what is the point?

13’, 18’ or whatever…

It’s not like anyone ISN’T surprised that it was ridden with success.

No one seems to question the amount of time and craftsmanship involved.

It is an impressive board, nonetheless.

WHAT IS THE POINT?

Whether it could be done… yea it is done.

Whether the ‘who’s who’ gave their blessings… they can piss off.

The entirety of this has become the Britney Spears ideology of swaylocks surfboard culture, and that

is very unfortunate.

This board deserves better.

And for those of you who read this and disagree with anything I’ve said…

Good for you. =)

I came across the website today and wanted to let everyone know what I found. I just want people to know that the board was ridden at Pipe and that someone has taken the time to mention it. Seemed like that was what everyone was asking… has the board been ridden at Pipe yet?

It won’t matter if someone successfully rides the board in huge Pipe, but I certainly would be bummed if someone gets hurt trying. I’ve already lost one good friend out there, and I almost drowned there. I know what’s at stake firsthand.

Please don’t send me replies. I could care less what you think, and I will not get into a discussion about it. I wasn’t there, so I don’t know what went down. You can ask the guy who posted the page all you want. He has that space right there on the page for you to do that.
