The problem with building boards for your kids.

The problem with building boards for your kids is you have way too much personally invested in them when your kids destroy them.  Even though it costs me a third the amount of buying boards in the store I think it bothers me more when a board I built gets wrecked or even dinged.

Built one 2-weeks ago and second session my daughter puts her knee into the rail.  Later on as I’m watching a kook on a longboard drops in on her and falls damaging the other rail.

Today one of my son’s board gets speered as I’m watching leaving a hole nearly clean through.  Gotta love crowded designated surfing beaches in the summer.

I think I’ll be getting a lot of practice building small shortboards over the next few years.  I’m also going to become an expert at ding repair.  I’ve already fixed more dings this summer than in the last 5-years combined.

Shots like this are priceless though.

You are a lucky father.  Great pic.
