Ronnie Burns was one of my favorites growing up.
Really am oldshit!
Ronnie was the kid that just ripped. But as a kid growning up Bobby Brown was mine along with Bernard and I am a Yank!
The template of a shortboard included in this book was the first board I built in 1985. A block of eps 2 lb foam purchased in washington dc area. epoxy, balsa wood plank laminated with hand made balsa glass on fin thruster. Traveled to OC MD every week all winter long for 2 years until I graduated college. Sold it in san antonio texas and it was hainging in a resturant last I knew. Wish I had a picture of it. The book was so vague at places I dicovered such bad habits in building a boards that I can’t post them here. It would be pure heresy.
Hey reverb. I understand what your saying. I didn’t bring those two into the example and don’t know if either charged knarly stuff in the past or not or surfed at a high level. I do know stretch lives in an area where big and sometimes very big surf is available on a regular basis. Not to mention welll groomed points for hot dog surfing. I’m sure having excellent test pilots( guys that rip the shit out of it) helps greatly with design knowledge. Mike
Can I go contrary again for a minute?
The internet is great! There is soooo much info available! Yea, you have to swim through the mud sometimes, but its worth it! Where else would I have learned about vacuum bagging, and all the possible materials out there!
Here’s a free one to anybody doing the tech stuff. Want to compare different materials for their properties? http://www.makeitfrom.com/ Want to know the difference between fiberglass, polypropelyne, nylon and wood? How else would the little guy like me find this stuff?
that was well said by frank zappa !
…the wisdom of Frank should never be taken lightly !..( as he rides into the sunset on his pigmy pony , with a pair of zircon encrusted tweezers in his right hand.)
Indeed. His untimely death was a great loss to many of us. I only wish he’d lived long enough to offer his opinions on some public figures of recent years, and other events in our culture.
For me that would be something “to offer his opinions on some public figures of recent years, and other events in our culture.”
Wonder how many were really born to have adventure or tried to get Dynamo to humm
…It’s not that hard OP…just apply liberal amounts of rotation to the sugar plum…(lol)
So as someone looking for good advice, I’m wondering what you guys think of the JC videos, Shaping 101 and Glassing 101? (That’s been my instruction thus far.)
I think the JC videos are a very good place to start. They give step by step instructions that can lead to something looking like a surfboard. I think the Jim Phillips Damascus videos are a must have and are great after getting a couple boards under your belt and understanding the process. the JC videos are on utube I think. Mike
