The Ravens and the 49ers

When I lived on Pleasure Point in the late '80s the Bartolo Family was at the top of their game with players like Montana, Young and Rice.  They were no law firm, but they laid down the law every time they played,  Usually Sunday Afternoon or the occasional Monday night,  I wasn’t really a fan but everybody in the 35th st, “hood” was.  The Point and Live Oak in general have lots of nice sunny weekends between storms during the Fall and Winter.  I could always telll a game was on because the pizza delivery guy would pull up to the neighbor’s house and the hootin and hollering would start .  The cheers and the groans would follow every play as Montana and Rice took it to their rivals.  Soon as I thought about it, I would grab my favorite stick, get on my bike and coast down the Point to Sewer Peak or First Peak.  Always an uncrowed session.  The tourists left early to get “over the hill” for Sunday Football and the “Night Fighters” in the Hood were all in front of the TV.  The last couple of years have made me wish I was back in the Pleasure Point hood.  I’m takin the Ravens because they’ve worked hard over the last ten years or so.  Suffered some defeat and came back from it.  Also;  It’s Joe Flaco’s turn and he deserves the respect.  There you go folks.  I can’t even start a non-related thread without somehow relating it to surfing,  Even got the dietery thing in there with the mention of a food group.  Lowel

Hi Ding,

I lived on the west side then. Sort of.  Niners in the Super Bowl was a good time to go surfing!  The Super Bowl is usually a good time to surf.  I used to record the game on my vcr, go surf, come home and watch the game.  Now I really don’t care much about the whole thing.  Just go surf.  Lately, I’ve been watching the games with my parents just to spend time with them.  They’re getting old. Mike

The only thing more boring than watching football is talking about it.

thats funny, couldnt agree with you more Sammy

but in this cause im going for the 9ers cause i have a relative who is a coach for them

and Mcding you made me think of the charger games down here

i always know when a game is on cause i have a neighbor that blows an air horn every time the chargers score

I’m not a footbal fan, not a bit.

After the 49ers game I called my cousin, who’s son was on the roster earlier in the year to congratulate them. It turns out he isn’t on the team now, and was at the hospital with his mom because his dad is dying from cancer. It was sad to hear he wasn’t on the team, but good to know he was at his father’s side. I know he’s had a hard time with his dad being sick all year. I think it would have meant the world to his father to see him in a superbowl game. His dad played for Greenbay and was backup quarterback to Bart Starr.

If I had a neighbor like that, they would not engage in that behavior for very long.
<evil grin>

Why are so many sports fans utter morons?

Ha…IM more into it than u americans…lol

arent the rival coaches brothers?

die hard 49er fan here going back to Kezar Stadium days…my wife used to be the practice RN for the 49er team surgeons during the 80’s, get all the scoop…“we cut the first joint of Ronnie Lott’s finger off in the office today because his cut got infected and he refused to not play and let it heal”…“Dwight Clark’s knee is totally blown, needs full reconstruction”…“The team said either *&&^%$# goes into drug rehab or he’s off the team”…lol

being a 9er fan back then was the best…crack the dawn patrol, cheer on the boyz that afternoon, the entire block would be rocking during the games…

should  be a hell of a good game…2 well matched teams across the board…go 9ers!!!

and, best of all, the Patriots and their miserable coach aren’t going to be there.

i’m starting get excited…god damn…and i only understand half the rulzs…lol!

who’s playing/singing at half time?

me thinkus i might have a little bbq/party my place come game time

not sure who back either

thinkin ravens as they seem the underdogs …on here at least

Been watching them since '57, when YA and JohnHenry were playing.

Always full of promise, but not until that magical '81 season did the fruit ripen.  I jumped on the streetcar to drive a taxi directly after the Dallas Catch game and the bowl.  Watched the later Bronc bowl from PuntaChivato in Baja, the hyped Elway bowl.

Another legion in the making, we'll see next week.

Yeah good times.  I’ll be at the Oar House most likly, since it’s next door to my shop in PC.

dingy i usually find ..................

.............superbowl day..........especially when the conditions are favorable.............

is the best time to go surfing.

herb

Randy Moss waay better than Jerry Rice.

kkkkeeeezar stadium

I marched there with my grey chinos and a white shirt

in the third grade as a Traffic boy.Yellow hat white belt

oh yeah the scout-o- rama was held there one year too!

Went to 49er game or two an army navy game,I remember

being cold eating great hot dogs and cokes and popcorn .

I am so glad that there are some to derive such enjoyment

from the Big Game.Have fun I hope somebody wins real good.

In 50 years the felt pennant will be worth a lot of money,

get somebody to sign it if you get the black pennant

bring a white ink sharpie.

…ambrose…

“kkkkeeeezar stadium”

no seats, just endless rows of hard wooden benches

had to bring something to sit on, or good chance end up with a splinter in your ass

thousands of names carved into the wood over the years “Drunk Dave Sat Here”

the only back support was from from the knees of those sitting in the row behind you

sat once right next to the 50 yard line, close to the team sidelines

old school, single bar face masks, no such thing as unnecessary roughness

will always remember the blood streaming down the face of the players

guys coming out of the game, collapsing behind the bench

like horses that had been ridden to death

not the fan I was in earlier times

stopped liking it so much when the ghetto claiming

saturated the league.

Same player who got burned 5 plays in a row, finally makes one

acts like a horses ass claiming it.

Touchdown celebrations like a 16 year old virgin getting laid for the first time

In your face and your mama’s face to boot

No class, no respect for the other team.

Kaepernick scores a touchdown, and kisses his bicep.

WTF?  How about acting like you’re been there before,

and 10 other guys helped you get in.

And Jim Harbaugh?  He puts the Wing in Wingnut.

And then there is Ray Lewis, epitome of what is wrong with proball.

Pleads guilty to obstruction in a double homicide,

gets off with probation,

pays undisclosed settlement to victims family.

His clothes from the stabbings, reportedly covered in blood,

never found.

Just a minor speed bump on his career,

2 bodies in the ground, no one found guilty, because he was apparently the only witness

and refused to testify, hence the obstruction guilty plea.

Now he’ll retire and become a talking head on some sports channel.

Getting paid millions to pontificate and babble like only Ray can babble.

A guy who pled guilty to obstruction in a double homicide.

so if the surf is good, I’ll tape the game.

Only guys like Andrew Luck keep me watching a game now and then at all.

Just saying…

Beautiful post, and one that epitomizes all the problems of the modern game.

I HATE VernonDavis celebrating after a nice catch.  In my day, LincolnHigh football, if we celebrated after scoring a TD like that we'd be benched the rest of the game.

All this modern posturing, dancing, and practiced routines just cheapens the game.

OTOH, the youth of America loves that crap.

So— Wasn’t that where the first “Dirty Harry” was filmed.

Hey Herb - It’s even better when your local team makes it to the Superbowl.  The 49ers are going to make Sunday a great surf day in SF.  Plus… there’s a mega swell on the way.

shhh… don’t tell anyone, it’s a secret.
