Ok first off how do you disppose resin? Second, the smell of resin somehow is always in my house since I have laminated it (lam in garage) and im wondering how your guys deal with that, and get it out! Thanks!
Please do not dispose liquid resin anywhere (unless you dont care for your environment).
If you have a lot left over donate it to a factory or return to the supplier.
If not, pour it into a bucket with some harderner and let it solidify.
I find the smell can be introduced into the house by the clothes you were wearing during glassing. VOCs are heavier than air…you can use a good fan on the floor to exhaust vapors out of a door or window.
Nice to have a glassing factory, to keep your home separate smelling.
OTOH, smell faintly reminds me of Toulene glue, you know, the model Tank stuff.
Yeah, keep the fan running, one way flow, change clothes, and you’ll still be forever smelling the smell of resin and catalyst.
I get a big cardboard box from bicycle or appliance store. Spread out on floor and move it outside when finished. When pouring or mixing resin, avoid spilling uncatalyzed resin - it’ll give off fumes for days. If you leave brushes or squeegee in acetone, move that outside too. Keep the door to house closed and taped - use alternate door to enter house if possible and keep some windows away from the garage open. Open garage door and a garage window slightly and use fan for cross ventilation. In addition to idea of changing clothes, don’t forget to change your shoes. Apologize to your wife or girlfriend when you stink the place up anyway and promise her it’ll never happen again! HA!!!
I love the smell…
Use epoxy instead. Is it only me or does epoxy smell kind of sweet?

Håvard
hey all, just out of curiosity, is there anything special that I should be doing with the empty resin containers when I dispose of them (there always seems to be a little left inside no matter how hard I try).
thanks a bunch

NewShaper,
Depending where you live there are laws on the books regarding dumping hazardeous materials. Check with your local Fire Dept. Any significant amount of resin that gets dumped in a landfill from about a qt on up can cause fires in landfills as trash rots and heats up. In NY a suburbanite is limited to trashing small quantities of resin mixed with sand a week. If there is any significant amount the Fire house would rather have it to dispose of properly. Any resin I have thrown out had sand mixed in after use before setting or placed in a bag of sand to minimize fire probles in landfills as instructed. Hope this helps.
Peace from the East.
I like the smell too, i reminds me of good times.
Howzit simon, Our transfer station lets us just through the buckets away as long as the resin is hard so just throw some catalyst in the bucket and kick what’s left off and there should be no problem. But then again it depends on your landfill policies.Aloha, Kokua
What smell?oh that,1/4 ‘’ of resin and sand on the bottom of my shoes drips on everyshirt, stuck to my forearm hair, my leg hair resin stlagtites and crystal chandaliers…thank goodness I dont have a dog visiting me to get implicated in the substance forenscics…use the buckets for dust pans on 1’'1/8 wood handles, renewable…strip nakid before entering house take a shower outside… ambrose…5 gal cans make good yard leaf twig dustpans
Use epoxy and stop polluting your house. I’ve written a paper on using epoxies and eliminating acetone from the workplace. E-mail me at and I’ll e-mail you a copy.
