Looking to custom a heavier noserider: 10’ 18 1/2 “x 23” x 15" low rocker, tail kick, concave and was grappling with how thick to go for my 5’10" 185lb. frame. Will be modeling the board after the Tak “Classic” heavier stringer configuration and glass job…anticipated weight 24lbs and was concerned with going too thick. Would three do it or do I really need to pack it on and go 3 1/8 or 3 1/4. Not a lot of experience with heavier boards, but definitely want the glide and some turn out of the shape as well. Suggestions?
3 3/8" to 3 1/2" thick
3" and heavy glass. I don’t like my boards quite that heavy, 20lbs usually does it for me, but I’d rather use heavy glass than a lot of thickness. What length are you thinking of?
how long?
you want to go 3-1/4" – 3-3/8"
Sorry about that guys (and Rachel)…going to go a full 10’ with a glass on Tak Pivot fin at 10" or 10.5" Board length was why I was going to keep it at 3" thick. Thoughts?
noserider you say!!?? 10 ft
3.25" to 3.5" thick
50/50 or 60/40 rails nose to tail
slight belly or flat throughout the bottom, maybe slight concave under the nose
wide square tail
Just My 2 cnts
hahaha
…
make sure you thin your rails heaps because 3 1/4" + for your size is a joke.
Are you young and strong go to 3" if you are older and strong go to 3.1/8, if you older and not is very good shape go to 3 1/4. All of this says you are going to use pinched 50/50 small end of the egg rails. Also you might what to make the tail just a bit wider I would say closer to 15 1/2 inchs. For weight go with heavier foam, not heavier glass you will end up with a board that will last you a lot longer that way.
3" thick at the thickest for your size. I’m 6’ 1" 210-215lbs, and I like my 10 footers 3" thick with knifey 50-50 rails. I can barely knee paddle them, but I’m not that into knee paddling. 24 lbs sounds about right for a classic log with a 10oz+8oz deck and a 10oz bottom.
My board is 3.5" thick 10 ft round pin with 2+1 fin set
60/40 rails to semihard at the tail
epoxy with veneer and 2x4oz deck, veneer and 2x4oz bottom weigh’s 18 lbs
I weigh 185
49 yrs young
small pot belly but healthy
paddle’s like a dream and catches everything
3" thick
50/50 rails nose to tail
slight belly nose to tail
slight concave
3 3/4" late tail kick
3 1/2" late nose kick
11" pivot fin 2" from the tail
