This is cool...

Ouch!

Good series of red bull videos, looks like the Biolos boards go real good , interesting to compare boards like that, even though the pros make them all look good theres still a big difference from the 90s model to the new one!

Interesting how that last board was better suited for todays modern surfing.

Shorter, wider, flatter rocker, more stability.

That Kelly board probably better suited for the type of surfing during the 90’s,

More rocker, narrower outline.

Probaly turned good.

Not as much drive.

Kelly was not doing airs then either.

To me they seemed to struggle landing airs on that Kelly board.

Then again, they probably would have had a harder time on the modern board back then?

Where’s the time machine when you need one?

first surfers on the new kirra   restore

Man,

That was cool.

I thought fish were the only other surfers in nature.

Wish I could fly back to the line-up too!

dodging kooks on the inside!

I keep seeing references to Noll’s Pipe board as an “elephant gun”. Sorry, not so.  At most, it was a semi gun, and even then the tail was a bit wide for that appelation.

Here’s two scans of pictures that show real 60s guns. One is from a Bing ad in 1964 and the gun is in the center. The other image is from an article about big wave boards, and shows typical mid sixties outlines for a gun and a semi gun.

cheers marshy

  that was amazing

I wonder how long it will be till they stop calling him john john ? cause I figure that is a MAN SIZED tube and balls to do that !  … whereas ,  ‘john john’ sounds like a kindergarten name …

And here are pictures of him riding it in the waves it was intended for.  Fvck yeah

He also took the Gerry Lopez board out.

As someone on the erBB said, “It’s really too bad that he comes off as such a douche in just about everything I see of him that’s not him surfing cause this is awesome.”

**great  **photos , cheers !

Just found this clip of Jamie O surfing this gun from December 21st. Looks pretty hard to handle.

The original didn’t look any easier to handle

Fallsalot, Thanks for posting that. This had other links that were pretty cool to watch. There’s one video with Brewer and I think Owl Chapman talking design on the beach. If only I could get feedback like that…

Now days called 2nd. and 3rd. reef Pipe.

Pretty cool.

I love the look of concern on the womens faces.

When I surfed big Pipe, my wife didn’t give a shit.

She just said not to stay out there all day.

HAHA!

.

.

That video clip is from a movie called Blue Surfari. It really isn’t that rare. I have it on DVD. There’s a clip in the film that became the opening title sequence for the TV show Hawaii 5-0 (the original). The footage was shot at Rockpile.

Also, one of the guys who posts here occasionally is in that same movie. Guess who.

In any case, that Noll replica is not an elephant gun, I don’t care who says it is.
