It’s nice to see the gopro get some competition in the ready-to-go water camera realm, and Nikon is a great company to be doing it. I have used Nikons professionally for years (we use Nikon and Canon DSLR’s pretty much exclusivly at present). What he said about changing lenses is really good news, the limitation of the (ultra-wide) on the gopro is pretty lame and makes those shots less interesting and ultimately less durable in the long run.

It would be nice to see wetsuits made with an easily accessible camera pocket built in.

Interesting. I’ve been thinking about scoring a GoPro, but this might be the choice instead. As the owner of two Nikonos IIs and a Nikonos IV,  I was disappointed when Nikon discontinued the line. For many years I’ve said they should do a digital Nikonos. The bodies are rugged as hell and the interchangable lens system is top notch, though manual focus. Any of the bodies were big enough to be retrofitted with digital innards.

The video seemed to state that the body will accept standard Nikon lenses, as well. If that’s the case, I’m in. As I own a half dozen Nikon mount lenses already. Of course, if I do buy one, they’ll probably come out with a full frame version a month later.

PLEASE buy one , Sammy , and let us see the results eh ?!

[…yes , I miss the Nikonos’s I owned , too !]

  cheers

I bought a GoPro 3 Black last year and consider it a bad purchse.  Only bothered to use it twice.  Its just too limited by the super wide angle lense and clunky controls.  I’m actually boxing it up and giving it to my grom for Christmas as it has sat in a drawer since I’ve had it.   Hopefully he will have some fun with it.

I’ve been using a Fuji Finepix waterproof camera for a few years and it is a much more useful camera in the surf.  5X zoom easy to use controls when you’re in the water and a good size display on the camera.  You can force a flash which makes it good to shoot surfers when the lighting isn’t great.
