hey i was looking at boards today and found this. the last 6 inches or so of the tail are a lot thinner then the rest of the board. what does this do.

could be flex or just a personal shaping style or a combo of both…that site has a e-mail address why not ask Clay himself
HAving the last 6 inches of the tail of a board won’t provide flex.
it’s thinner back there to create an “ashtray”… a dug out section on the deck that act’s as a resiviour for water flowing over it… this creates a pocket of water that weighs the tail down even more to give you a more connected noseride.
