to 'Rooster' ...re: 'mini-simmons' board ....

hiya Mike !

I hope you are well, and getting waves ?!

Mate,  I wanted to ask you ...

I noticed on the 'post your current project'  thread , that you said you had sold your 'mini simmons'-type  board , ?as you preferred your fish[es]?

SO ... firstly , what felt best about the board  ?

  and ..

what did you not like about it , or how it went ?

.....  WHAT would you change , next time , were you to make another 'mini-simmons' ??

would you , for example ,

thin it ?

narrow it ?

pull in the tail , and / or  nose ?

use a more rockered blank ?

change the rails ?

different bottom ?

use a fin system , in order to experiment with fin size , shape , placement , cant , toe , rake ?

.....I ask , because my mate here , "Moonfish" ,  is contemplating making one [he's around ? 6'2 and 105 or so kgs ?  [a big guy] . So far , he's thinking along the lines of a 6' x ?23? x 2 5/8" or so...

what do you reckon ??

okay, cheers for any feedback , Mike !!

Hey Ben,

It was too stiff.  It road like a nine footer.  Only, it was a six footer.  I’m thinking about another right now.  I’m going to go a couple inches shorter, pull the tail in a few inches, and go with a quad.  I’m definately thinning out the tail, too. Maybe add some curve to the tail instead the square tail.   I really like the look of ACE’s mini-simms.  I’ve seen a couple of Baugess mini-simmons and there is a lot more going on in terms of the curves on the bottom.  Kind of a hull the front third or so blending into a down railer with single concave.  Complex bottom.  I’ll try to add some of that element as far as my limited shaping abilities allow.  What about you, Ben.  Any new projects?  Thanks for emails, too.  I enjoy them.  Mike

thanks very much for the feedback , Mike !!

  yes ,

we were thinking probox[es] , so's we can do the quad , as well as twin fin / keels option

[ ....? with  maybe a back finbox too ,  so if we pulled in the tail , we could have a slabby , stubby single fin. with a very raky , flexy fin ? ]

my main project [besides the never-ending fin making / refining / reshaping] ,  will be fixing the stub's delam that i posted a shot of , on the 'post your current projects ' thread ....then , i can test more of my fins , once i quad it

    cheers !

    ben

hi again Mike !!

....what dimensions were your mini-simmons , please ?

length ,

width ,

nose ,

tail, [and tail pod , tip to tip] ,

 rocker ,

thickness,

what was the foil like , rails , too ?

[any photos , preferably deck , bottom and side on view , please ? .....if they are already posted here previously , what is the link please ? cheers mate !]

if you ? maybe? make the next one like your fish , but with a rounded square [narrower ] tail , and maybe with slightly canted , and toed-in , 'half-moon fins' .... how do you reckon THAT would go ? [what bottom and rails does your fish have , by comparison ?]

i made a pair of blue tint keels , fcs tabbed , for the 'Walden CD4'. i have since reshaped them, into a 'half-moonish' pair , and will try them out soon , to see how THAT goes [kinda a 'test the feeling' before making a mini-simmons jump....]

  ....to be continued....

cheers for your help ,  Mike !

Hi Ben,

I have to pull the numbers off the wall in my shaping room.  I’ll do it a little later. Got to go. Mike
