You mentioned in a previous post that you tried some catalyzing/bonding agent mixed with acrylic paint. Are you mixing for airbrush application? What did you try, what was the desired effect and outcome! Some of my “pro” friends have mentioned that clear tinting base (high grade house paint) works well with some acrylics.

I used Createx paints and the bonding/catalyzing agents. Easy to use, you just ad 3 drops to an ounce. The main problem I was trying to solve was bleeding paint during the layup. I found the these agents dramatically reduced bleeding. I also used a Createx clear coat – it sealed the board nicly but was more likly to show some “fogging” or “crystles” (one side of the board used a clear coat, the other used bonding and cat agents – used three colors and painted the whole board). As for the clear tinting, I am unfamilier with this. The bonding and Cat agents solved the problem – so I plan to stick with that. In general, Clear Coats tend to seal up the cell – its not helping the resin bond to the foam. Could be a source for delamination. Truth is, a board is probably better off with no paint at all – just plain white. Here is a place where more is less. Shine http://users.leading.net/~shine

BTY, my experience is that reds and blacks have a tendency to crystalize, especially over the stringer if it is not taped off. Allot of mfgs (Lynch, Byrne, Infinity)are starting to use white sprays on otherwise colorless boards. Keeps them nice and bright for a long time. With any paint job, easy does it gets it done. I’ve had “full paint” boards last for a long time w/o delam problems. At least way longer than the board stays relevent!
