to the "fin foilers" among us .....

..... would you like some 'fins'  blanks ? [ie"  fin templates rough cutouts , unfoiled and untabbed [ you 'could conceivably use them as glassons that way , too [once you have done the foiling ]

if you get in touch with me [via private message , if you prefer ], maybe , in the words of stingray

" let's do a deal "

saves me having to upset my neighbours , get dust everywhere ,

and

hopefully , it will help YOU guys out , to make some different fins to what is available commercially , hopefully ... [if not different templates , then at least different colours , and stuff ? ]

  cheers !

  ben

Ben, what are you doing? Trying to turn people into dusty, itchy folks like us?

Foiled some Bonzers for a new project this week.

Ah, itchy fibreglass is fun!

Hope all is well.

Enjoy your summer!

Barry

cheers Bazza !

good to hear from you mate !

I hope you get a good winter for clean swells and wind , in your neck of the woods ?

today we had clean head-high and larger waves , UNHEARD  of here , in summer !  of course , it was PACKED OUT by 5.30am , so I took photos with simon's christmas / birthday prez combo [a canon point and shoot digi ! yewwww , S T O K E D !!!]

yep , regarding fin foiling ....

there are some things I am hoping to achieve doing the fin blanks offer ....

1. have people do their own fins [to get an idea of the work / process involved]

2. earn myself a bit of cash , so I can buy more resin ...to make some more panels , and continue the cycle !

 3. [hopefully] help out and encourage fellow swaylockians who have been 'thinking' about making fibreglass fins  for a while , but have baulked at laying up panels [ there , since  I have done the work FOR you guys...now it's time for you guys to get to work , foiling  ! ]

 4. save myself what you mentioned , Barry ! [dust, itchiness]

I heartily RECOMMEND that EVERYONE wear FULL PROTECTIVE  GEAR , from the top of their head , to the bottom of their feet ...none of this soulfoul 'morning of the earth ' fibreglass shit flying everywhere shorts only bulldust  for me , any more !

...I reckon that baddy treloar is lucky to still be alive , the more I watch that segment in the vid..... it is for good reasons  that occupational  health and safety practices are so prevalent today !

  5.  rid myself of my excess of fin stock !!  [most importantly ! ]

So far , there has not been much response to my offer [ I guess people don't want to foil fins nowadays , eh ?! ]

But ,

I will persevere , with a new thread ,

"fin blanks"

[just in case people bypassed / missed this one ...]

I have just  spent the last hour , organising then photographing 'most' of the scraps , panel offcuts , and fin blanks , that I have lying around here [well, stored in boxes , actually ! ],

just so people will get an idea of what is available ....

I'm off to start a new thread [and prior to that , of course , uploading the shots onto 'photobucket' .... " hi ho , hi ho .....photo posting I will GO !" [?again ?!]

  cheers !

[ speaking of which ....

with the "off-air time" of  "Swaylock's "  recently , I can now no  longer log in under that name , unfortunately ...so  occassionally I will , like that "identity" , also do 'non-verbal' [ ie: 'non-writing' posts ...the "fin blanks" one to come , being one of them ....]

Hi Ben you are the fin specialist.

Here in Costa Mesa California at Clear Water Glassing our shop makes it’s own fins as you do.

Mark McConnell is our inside fin maker:

Kind regards,

surfding

cheers surfding !

Mark , that is a LOVELY  panel !

I would LOVE  to chat to him one day .... would he ever post here at 'Swaylock's , do you think , surfding ??

It would be nice to have some more fin makers here !

  cheers

    ben

hopefully if tomorrow is 'groundhog day' , surfwise , then these  will get a test ride , FINALLY ?!

I wish I would have taken the photo with light behind the fin.

Anyway 5 fins were made from this panel.

70’s throw back.

Kind regards,

surfding

.... LOVELY !

how deep is that , and what size base , please , Surfding ?

looks like it would be pretty flexy in the tip . Nice and rakey , too...

.... I LIKE it , a LOT !

 cheers for posting that  !

And , please feel free to post any others of his creations [with his permission]  here , too, of course !

A couple of  matching little side fins for that would be great , I reckon , for a "widowmaker"-type  setup [ in oh , say, a 6'4" to 7' board ].....

  ben

Hi Ben:

It’s for a 6’8" Swallow tail retro single fin.

Kind regards,

surfding
