Toothpick Kookbox

Hi, just picked up this board from Truro Cornwall UK It was bought back to Cornwall after the 2nd world war from Australia late 40;s early 50’s, I was told all this but its 2nd hand info. It has had a poor replacement of part of the deck by the handle. it is 11ft 7 1/2 ins x 21ins x 4 1/2ins thick. The botttom appears to be one piece of ply but with the surface  vaneer joind mide way. It looks like it was made from Popular Machinics plans? wether Australian or US made would be interesting to know? the “D” handle might be a clue if the same handle has been seen on another board.

Any information about this type of board would be great to hear.

Thanks Alexcam

I don’t havea thing to say in regards to the origines of that Board. But what a find. Good luck with getting some info and history.

Hi Artz, Yes, great find, just wish I could get some more info on this board? It dose seem to be  shorter than a lot of others?

Thanks Alex

Looks like it’s in good serviceable condition…does it have a fin ?..Ive restored quite a few of those , and built 2 over the last year…curious about the double scarfed ply?..the handle on the tail suggests that it may be commercially built , and a good clue as to who made it…it’s a nice old board.

Hi Kayu,

yep in ok condition, and no there is no fin or has been. The top/deck has had about 3ft replaced by the handle and more modren screws used to put it back on.that is why there is a couple of joints/scarfs. The bottom seems to be one length of ply but the vaneer layer has the joint half way down. I  also thought the D handle might give some clues?

Thank you

Alexcam
